Modem/Router reliability concerns

Many posts on the board seem to be the result of noise/disconnections in the evening - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/10/22/zen_ar7_infineon_bt_fault/ confirms what some have thought over at www.thinkbroadband.com . There's a link to routers/modems with the offending chipsets at the bottom of the register page.
From my own experience it does indeed hold true in that a netgear dg834g consistently lost connection at night, speedtouch st585v6 with broadcom chipset holds steady 24/7.
Good article by Andrew Ferguson on the thinkbroadband home page about poor connections at night and the causes.
With the longer nights approaching many people will start to experience poor connections so worth a read for info purposes.
Oh, and the moneysaving bit is in hopefully avoiding callouts from bt.
Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p
