Fresh meat

My Waitrose only have it in the prepacked section ( not the butcher's counter) and they stock so little you have to be there early to get any. Might have to give it some thought, but at £8 delivery:eek: I'd need to make a substantial order to make it worthwhile.
Sunnyside do excellent rose veal - I have not used their mail order as they sell at our farmers market so I buy from the stall. As well as excellent veal, their Dexter beef and Shetland lamb is some of the best beef and lamb I have ever tasted. Not cheap but so worth it for the flavour and quality. Probably best to phone and see what they have though - he said demand for the Dexter beef is much higher than they can supply so it goes really fast and they won't have more for a while now (It's also hung for 4 weeks). Yesterday at the market they had bacon, veal, Shetland lamb and a variety of pork sausages. The veal sausages are amazing! http://www.localfoodshop.co.uk/vendors/oldspot?categoryid=11&vendorcategoryid=13

By the way, Waitrose have British rose veal mince on offer this month at £1.99 (500g I think) reduced from £2.99."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

We've finished the Well Thrifty box now so I thought I'd give you an update on what we thought.
Whole Chicken1.960kg -a good 4lbs delicious-did 1 meal for 5 and another of chicken noodle soup plus stock
Half Shoulder of Lamb 890g -good but minute amount for 5 of us considering the amount of fat in the joint-one meal only
Beef feather steak 555g -really disappointing, I grilled it and it was really gristly-should have braised it. Also not enough for all of us so I served it on a day when one of the kids was out.
Pork Belly Slices 315g 2 strips- would have fed one of us so I made it into pate with the liver which no-one liked:rolleyes:
2 chicken thighs(305g)- again not enough for a meal so I put them in a rice salad for lunchboxes
Handmade Sausages 525g (6 sausages) delicious, but only 6 of them so we had them on a day when OH was out.
Streaky Bacon 160g good, kids had sandwiches for breakfast
Beef Steak Mince 435g- made a nice chilli for all of us
Organic Beef Stock Bones 390g -made into stock
Organic Liver (300g)- pate, see above
a jar of plum and cranberry chutney
The box was intended for a family of 4 so I was pushing it a bit to expect it to serve 5 of us one of whom is a teenage boy. I think the meal suggestions on the website were way off though. The lamb would never have stretched to another meal and the belly strips weren't enough for one meal.
The quality was very good though. I didn't find it any better than the meat my butcher sells me and he is considerably cheaper.
All in all my money wasn't wasted but I won't be buying that particular box again;)0 -
