How can a machine wash at 30 be any more money saving than at 40 when they both run for the same time?

Was thinking that but it must be negligible.0

I agree, plus, IMO it wouldn't get the clothes clean enough anyway - 10 degrees is quite a big difference - have you felt the tap water at 30 and 40? I know which I prefer to use - and anyway, I can't wash at 30 even if I wanted to, cos my lowest wash temp is 40! The machine is only about 5 years old too.0

Alot is saved on heating the water!
Cleaning is a combination of Chemical+mechanical+ thermal energies times time! Washing machines are generally a warm agitated soak these days relying heavily on chemical energy to clean! The old fashion twin tubs had much more mechanocal energy and faster spin dry rates!!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -
The only saving is if the machine is using cold water & heating it to the correct temp to wash. Mine takes in hot water so there is no saving.0

Do they? Mine takes 12 minutes less on 30 deg - that adds up to one wash saved from every 6.
This is the sort of question that's much better asked on the Old Style board - there have been several threads on the question of 30 deg vs 40 and over. Apart from bedding, towels and underwear (most likely to have bodily fluids on them and thus need higher temps), most people seem to find very little difference when washing at 30 compared with 40, and use less product too.0 -

To be honest, you can use less product at either temperature if you add some soda crystals in with the wash. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Can't beat pre-soaking, loosens the dirt. Mine is a hot and cold fill,Hoover Ecologic, thinking of changing but could only see cold fills.0
