Hi there.
I am also a single parent on IS and I have 2 kids.
My boyfriend lives in London which is 130 miles away from me and I sought advice from the DSS on this subject.
Basically he can stay at yours for no more than 2 nights a week on a regular basis, he must not have many of his belongings there (only enough for the 2 night stay) and he must not have post delivered to him at your address. You can go and stay at his for a holiday the same as you can go and stay with anyone for a holiday but if he came to stay at yours for longer than 2 nights you are supposed to inform IS. Then it all depends on whether he is paying keep to you for staying there and whether he works as to if you get to keep your benefit or not. They will also check up on you now and again by watching your house to make sure there are no signs of a man living there. I've been doing this for a year now and I informed the DSS of the situation at the start incase any 'friend' shopped me for something I wasn't doing out of jealousy.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
It's a difficult one re partners, there are no rules set in stone that I know of. I suppose two or three nights would be seen as ok. As you're on income support there's no need for them to know if you spend a week away as you don't have to sign on or be available for work. What you would have to watch though is how neighbours etc. view this relationship (in case they report you).
There is info about this on a previous threads.
co-habitation and benefits fraud,
Also there is the single mum with boyfriend moving in thread and
classed as living together and
council claims we are living together and we are not and
turned down for JSA cos "we are living together as partners".
(I will add these to FAQ's.)Torgwen.....................
