Kaupthing Edge Experience

Options
Just to let you guys know who are on the fence about opening a KE account.

I open an account last Sunday on-line, my confirmation that the account was opened was emailed on Tuesday as was part one of the security process for gaining on-line access.

The next day Wednesday I received the postal letter from them with part two of the security info needed to gain on-line access.

I was able to view my account on Wednesday online and did a test transaction which credited the KE account on Friday.

All in all a total hassle free procedure and I'm well happy with the service provided.
I have never opened an account so quick.

It will be even better when KE join the Faster Payments scheme so that I can get fund in to higher interest tiers quicker.

Pat on the back to KE from Planemad. :T:T:T:T:T:beer::beer::beer:

I've never had any problems logging in at all and neither have quite a few on the same thread. There are people having problems but it's not as bad as that.

I've applied for a Kaupthing Edge account and they want me to send them additional ID in the post. This always happens when I apply for online accounts - why? I'm on the electoral roll and have lived at the same address for 30 years... Anyway, how do you pronounce Kaupthing??? Is it Kalpthing or Korpthing?

I applied the other day, received the email within a day or so, followed a couple of days later by a welcome letter. Unfortunatly the letter gave me a temporary password of my postcode, which of course didn't work and ended up locking out my account.

I phoned them up, had to give a number of security answers (fair enough) and they explained they have been having a few online problems and immediate sent out a 'change password' email which let me in.

I did the next day receive a letter apologising for the inaccurate letter which just about covered the mistake so early on in my custom with KE.

I have today transfered a small amount of money in to see it works, and then will transfer the rest in and put on a 3 year fixed term, after all, if you withdraw, you still get a better rate than the standard saver tariff :D
  • [Sounds great until you read the Mail today and see that Kaupthing has a risk rating of 856this is on the edge, they are one of the most risky banks in Europe. No £35,000 protection. You wouldn't take your cash and put in on the lip of a volcano but that is your situation be very careful. Ironically Iceland is covered in Volcano's get away quick and take your hard earned dosh with you. Listento wake up to money on five live they havebeen warning about icelandic banks for months. Go away fatrat1, stop posting the same rubbish all over the forum. Kaupthing has the same protection as any UK institution.

CharlotteP - it does seem to be the same people having the problems and posting on multiple boards about it and so making the problems seem more wide spread then they are. Like many other people who have posted on here, I can confirm I have had no problems at all, always smooth, fast and easy.

Except Nothern Rock! But I am always reassured when I check with Martins Money on bank safety!:money:

I prefer korpthing, but I think it's kalpthing. That's how the CS operator answered the phone, anyway.

And not sure about the additional ID thing - I used to get processed immediately, though now I always get asked for additional ID. The money laundering spiel they include in the letter goes to suggest that these companies now ask everyone to send it in - though I don't know if that's the case of not. Would be easier without it, but I understand why they ask for it.
