Can anyone help with New York?

Hello all,
I'm going to New york in 3 weeks with my girlfriend, I am planning to "pop the question" on a saturday night and was wondering if anyone can recommend any nice restaurants where i can do this. I'm not bothered about the expense as its a one-off special although i wouldn't want to pay anything ridiculous.
We are staying at the Hotel Pennsylvannia across from Madison Square Garden, so we are close to times square and broadway. I'm also thinking of going to a show on broadway afterwards so any help here would be appreciated too.
Thanks a lot
Nev

Sounds lovely, NY can be a really romantic place. If you want a nice quiet romantic setting then you can go to a restaurant but the nice ones where people are in suits are usually really expensive, especially for wine. There is a list here (http://www.nyc.com/list.aspx?c=6&e=isRomantic&s=273&v=273&thelist=isRomantic%2F273%2F273). Another idea is to charter a private boat to take you around liberty island etc... You can have one to yourselves or have a meal on a restaurant boat. I'm sure both of these would be really romantic in the evening. I know some friends who hired one for business and said it was great. The company website is here (http://www.nyboatcharter.com/) - This site loads slowly!
Good Luck

Never did all that when I asked Mrs Chalky_bertie to marry me but it depends what you want. You could do it on the top of the Empire State Building looking at NYC but there are usually loads of people about. There are also horse and carriages that go around Central Park which may be useful to know.
Good Luck whatever you decide.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
I love New York. We visited 6 months after 911, a very dear friend of mine died in the Twin Towers so it was something I felt I had to do.
Anyway - there are so many restaurants to choose from, The River Cafe is wonderful, it's a floating restauran situated under the Brooklyn Bridge at the Brooklyn end, with a spectacular view of the Manhatten skyline - dinner at sunset here would be wonderful - BUT it's expensive, and you have to book well in advance.
Or, the top of the Empire State Building at sunset is a pretty spectacular place to propose, then you have your pick of the Midtown Restaurants as the ESB is on 5th Avenue.
My favourite places to eat are all in Greenwich Village, the choice is huge and you don't usually need to book.
The Circle Line do evening 2-hour cruises around Manhatten, have a look here

Or you could take a horse & carriage ride around Central Park and propose with a bottle of champagne.
as to a show you are spoilt for choice, your best bet is to go to the TKTS booth on Time Square, you can get last minutes & cancellations there cheaper than trying the theatres.
Hope this helps,coffeebean0 -

That reminds me of "Sleepless in Seattle" when they (Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan) meet at the top of the Empire State Building.............. it's so lovely!
I hope that you both have a wonderful trip and you're very happy in your life together.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

He he were going in 3 weeks too.
The best night out we ever had was a dinner boat cruise up the Seine in paris.
They do a similar thing in NYC http://www.worldyacht.com/
Also check out Foleys for a brilliant view of times square;

Unfortunately they have a revolving restaurant in times square but its shut till october foe renovations0 -
We came back from NYC 3 weeks ago, we actually saw an American couple get engaged at the top of the ESB! It was lovely but the place was so crowded - personally I would say go for the restaurant option (I was proposed to at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower cos Hubby was too embarrassed once we got to the top and it was heaving!)
I would highly recommend the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel which overlooks central park, I have never been but has an excellent reputation. Good luck!0
