The compressor look like it is gone......as it is 2 years old I would suggest you contact the shop you bought it from. As said many times on this board, "...goods should be of satisfactory quality etc...." in other words, a fridge/freezer should last for more than 2 years same for TV etc. Had it been a toaster or a hair dryer, 2 years would be deemed reasonable.

Most unlikely it's the compressor in my experience.
Very rare these fail in comparison to the thermostat.
I've fixed many fridges with a new thermostat.

If you know what you are doing it is easy to check that it's the thermostat.
You just need to "short it out" - that is - replace it with a wire link.
The thermostat is just a temperature controlled switch.
If inside the fridge is too warm it closes and switches the compressor ON.
When it gets cold enough it opens and further cooling is stopped.

It has 2 wires (maybe a 3rd that will be earth) - if the thermostat is "replaced" with a wire link and the compressor starts and the fridge gets cold then you know what the fault is !

Stat could be causing problem but fridge/freezer would still be working (not well but working). We should find out soon.

    PARDON ?

If the thermostat is stuck OPEN, the compressor will never start and you are the proud owner of a large metal box lined with insulation.

If the thermostat is stuck CLOSED, the compressor will run forever and never stop. Unfortunately this will likely lead to frozen eggs and frozen bottles of milk in the fridge.

My fridge stopped working last year, light still worked but nothing else. Thought it worth changing the thermostat before getting someone in - worked perfectly.

(Not being very 'techie', I took photos on my phone as I went along as a guide to putting the new one on.)
