Who should leave feedback first?

I sold my first item on ebay, the buyer collected (I, therefore, am the seller!;)). Should I leave them feedback or should I wait for them? Im obviously giving them a positive feedback, although I had to help them an awful lot as it was a large item. I hope they leave good feedback as well, but in case i leave good feedback and they leave bad feedback for some weird reason, then i have nothing to respond with.
That may sound stupid but i thought it shud be the buyer who leaves feedback 1st?
Thanks,
-MoE-

bit of a chicken and egg question that imho. depending on what you give feedback for (and why you give it) you'll have a different answer.
i tend to see it (mostly) as confirming whether people do a good job of buying or selling. the buyers job (again imho) is essentially to pay for an item promptly. the sellers job is to despatch the goods promptly, well packed and for those goods to be as described.
on that basis i tend to give buyers feedback once they've paid and sellers get feedback from me once i've received the goods and checked them over to make sure everythings ok.
now this leaves me open to the possibility of not getting feedback from a buyer or getting negative feedback but personally i get ticked off when a seller waits until i've left feedback before leaving some for me - especially as i tend to pay pretty much instantly. some people do it to make sure that all is ok with the item and that's fair enough but i get the feeling a lot of people do it to make sure they get feedback and have the option of retalliating if the feedback is negative...
there's no right or wrong answer to it - just do what you think is right."Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0 -
Read here if you want to spend a LOT of time researching the dilemma properly.

Well, I left them feedback and I actually sold a wardrobe. I even disassembled it for them and helped them put it in their car....which is more than enough, hope i get my first positive feedback. Im sooo happy I sold somehting on eBay for the first time, theres always a down sound, I LOST MY PHONE TODAY!!!
Looks like the money received from my wardrobe will have to go towards a new phone!!!!0 -
Not quite a new month but here we go again...:)
Anyway here is an extract from the EBay Notification of Dispatch e-mail:-
"Once your item arrives in satisfactory condition, please leave feedback for me. I will do the same for you."
You will have many on here that think the seller should leave it in response to prompt payment. Whilst the old hands know that this is not the best approach.
The sale in my view is not complete until the buyer has intimated that they are happy and the deal has been satisfactorily concluded and in my view that is normally done by leaving feedback.
I do however tend to leave feedback after a month or so just to tidy things up.0 -
This question has been discussed on here a lot recently.
I think that the buyer should be the one to leave feedback first because then as a seller you know that they are happy with the whole transaction. I would never leave a buyer positive feedback first just because they paid promptly because they could turn out to be an eBayer from hell and cause all sorts of problems.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

The seller should leave feedback first once they've got their money. Then the buyer leaves feedback once they've received their goods and are happy with them.
Any seller that doesn't leave feedback first is just holding back so that they can 'revenge-neg' the buyer if everything goes tits-up.0 -

@Hintza - that's the exception I'd make, so long as people explain the way they want to work in the auction description it's not a problem. However it's very rare that i've seen that sort of thing outside of ebay shops and businesses using ebay. As with most things, it's the uncertainty that's the problem.
Also - I've never seen a 'notification of dispatch' email - is that just a suggested template?"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0
