Buyer says item not in Box

Yesterday I posted by Royal Mail special delivery a ring, insured it by Royal Mail for £500. Buyer paid 125 for ring.
This morning buyer has said ring was not in Box.
Any ideas how I go about this.

Did you advertise the ring as being in a box? (and did you send it in a box?)0

Yes the ring was sent in the Box ,0

I would report it to Royal Mail as lost. You sent it and its disspeared between leaving you and arriving at the persons house. I would make it quite clear your going to report it to Royal Mail and it will be investigated just in case they made a mistake. Make sure they keep all the packaging.0

What did you send it in? Most jiffy bags look severely damaged when someone tries to open them (tamper evident), so was there any damage to the packaging when it arrived, and if yes, why did they sign for it?
Are they suggesting you sent an empty box, or are they suggesting Royal Mail stole it?
Also, check the feedback for the buyer. Anything dodgy?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Ooops, completely misread that as meaning they had received the ring, but it wasn't in a box... D'oh.
So... what Mrcol said
I don't think RM cover jewelry as standard, so I hope you mentioned what it was when you posted it. 0 -
oh yes told the lady in local post office it was a ring!0

Tough one...... did the buyer pay with paypal?
Anyone know how paypal usually decide if the sender has a signature for a package from the buyer....?0 -
Buyer paid by Paypal.0

I find it hard to believe that a PO employee would open a parcel, take the ring out of the box, then seal it all up again, especially if it's on a recorded delivery.
Things to be aware of:
Recorded delivery doesn't mean there will be a signature. Sometimes the parcel gets left, sometimes they don't ask you to sign.
Does the buyer have good feedback over a long period of time, or is it a new user with no feedback/old user with no recent feedback?
Not 100% about Ebay/PayPal, but the seller is advised to insure the parcel. That being the case, their argument will be the seller should be claiming the insurance, and the buyer should be refunded.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.
It's the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without being seduced by it.
