Which hoover?

My Miele Cat & Dog is beginning to act its age so thinking I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new hoover. Any recommendations bearing in mind we have a dog and one daughter has mild asthma? Don't really have the funds to buy another Miele so looking for alternatives.

Many thanks.

  • What is wrong with your old one? I don't have a Miele, but depending on the age if the quality is as good as people say then it might be worth getting it refurbished.
If the suction is not so good then replacing all the filters should help, maybe take it to a repairer to strip it down and clean it. Replacement heads and hoses should be available.
Dysons don't seem to be that reliable and a lot of other new vacuums seem a bit flimsy. For pets you need one with a turbo brush head. People recommend the Henry but the pet versions are not cheap.
  • Dyson. Absolutely fantastic. Sad I know. I prefer using the Dyson to My Nintendo Wii the kids got me for fathers day
  • My brother got a reconditioned one on ebay a couple of weeks ago. He spent about £60 on it. I've used it its just like my one that I paid over £200 for

I know where I'll be getting my next hoover from:rolleyes:

We have a Henry and a Henry Hound.
Both are brilliant and just run and run.
We have 3 dogs (rottie, lab, and springer) and a cat and the wifes a vet and every place she has ever worked they only have Henrys.

I tried Dyson and it didnt do it for me but I have friends that swear by them.

My view was if the Henry was used by vets, hotels, and my builders then they would be good enough for me.

Thanks everyone. The turbo head needs replacing which I've googled and found for £40 but on the lower settings it's cutting out so I'm thinking I could spend £40 on a new head and then it'll give up anyway. It is about 7 yrs old and is used every day!! It's the usual dilemma of do you spend money on the old one or put it towards a new one? We've had so many mechanical objects go wrong recently I'm beginning to think we're jinxed!!

Give Meile a call. They'll do a complete service on a 2 day turnaround (eg. collect on Mon, back with you on Wed). If you want to buy a new one anyway (I reckon 7 years is pretty good), why not go for the same again? Have you had any probs with it? Meile always come out top in the Which surveys on vacs.

Thanks Forris - do you know how much they charge for a complete service? I think 7 yrs hard labour is pretty good too. Not had any problems with it, only moan is that is very heavy when carrying up and down stairs. But apart from that no problems with it. Found another thread re vacuums and it seems Sebo is rated quite highly.
  • I bought an upright Sebo this year and am pleased with its performance (I have two dogs so it's fully tested!).

My only complaint is it easily falls over when using the wand which is annoying

Sebo vac bags are often cheaper than meile if that sways your decision at all !!!

for picking up ability dyson is probably the best , in terms of build quality and reliability , it's probably the worst , in my local repair shop the guy had around 20 cleaners in for repair , 15 were dysons ,
we have a dyson at home , and i use a henry for work , if you change the bag regularly they do a good job . v tough and reliable
