Inter-Credit say the DVLA are preparing a claim against me?! CONFUSED!!

Hi,
I sold my July 2008, filled out the log book, sent it off. Come to think of it I havent received any correspondence from DVLa confirming change of ownership.. however, one would presume the new owner may have chased up the log book if they hadnt had it...
Today I have recieved a letter from "Inter-Credit" stating as I have "ignored all previous letters the DVLA is currently preparing a claim against you as the registered keeper of an unlicensed vehicle." and it goes own to encourage me to pay £80 or face court and £1k fine blah blah blah...
I have 100% not recieved any previous letters from the DVLA to ignore, and I sent off the log book when I sold the car. Surely the new owner would notice a lack of logbook and follow this up??? I think the car may have been running out of tax that mth?? But I sold it before it had expired...
I have since had a look at the DVLA website to check the status (DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online | Home click n "vehicle enquiry) of the vehicle and been given the following info
Date of Liability 01 07 2010
Date of First Registration 01 08 1994
Year of Manufacture 1994
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1905CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £104.50
12 Months Rate £190.00
This suggests to me that the car is taxed until end of july 2010?
What do I need to do? Im scared of being threatened and the other posts ive read about the staff at intercredit doesn't inspire me to rely on their empathy or human decency! I dont wish to admit any liability by replying to their bullying tactics but I also dont want to be taken to court or get in trouble...
If I phone the DVLA would they help? Or again like other people will they direct u to intercredit as they hold the file now?
Thanks in advance for your help,
regards

did u take the details of the person you sold to? ring dvla and pass them on, then get intouch with buyer and explain situation.
If you dont have the details, im not sure maybe find your local dvla office and go see them.
Do you still have the slip from the log book?
good luck0 -
Maybe the DVLA never got your V5?
I haven't been in that situation but I believe the DVLA commonly try to take people to Court over this. If you sent them your V5 and are prepared to turn up and swear to this in Court then you will not have any problem. It seems lots of these cases are thrown out without the DVLA provding any evidence. As far as your 'evidence' is concerned you just have to state that you posted the correct completed document to the DVLA. See this case which is relevant and interesting for you to see what goes on in similar cases (don't worry it has a happy ending!):

But you do need to get Inter Credit off your back. Are they a firm of debt-collectors? If so then simply write (snail mail, keeping a free certificate of posting from the PO) to Inter Credit telling them that any alleged debt is disputed and denied by you and they are expressly requested to return the case to the DVLA. That's all you say, don't explain.
Maybe Inter Credit are trying it on, but how would they know the vehicle details (did they quote them?). It does seem odd as I thought the DVLA would just take you straight to Court, not use a debt collector?

I would definately contact the DVLA directly on this one and explain your case. Take notes of all contact made.
Make NO CONTACT with Inter-Credit.
Inter-Credit are also mentioned HERE and HERE. The 2nd link (phoneowner.info) I'm not sure about . It may be some employees trying to big up Inter-Credit.I'M NOT AS THINK AS YOU DUMB I AM...

Don't forget, the DVLA assume you receive a letter if they sent it so you can assume the same.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thanks for your response guys.
I have still got the buyers information but unfortunatly no V5 paperwork for the car in question. I have not had ANY correspondance since selling the car in July 2008 from DVLA
I spoke to DVLA this morning. They took my details and said they could not advise when the ownership was transferred, but could confirm it was not July 2008 (when I sold the car). I said I had a letter from Intercredit with court threatened. They have requested I write/fax to them with any info I have and explain the situation.
I have little interest in entertaining the folk at Intercredit with a phone call as they appear to be con artist scar mongers...0 -
Did you create a Bill of Sale ? Dated and signed properly by the buyer?0

Oh well. Even so, if you are OK to swear in Court that you posted the right documents to the DVLA then you have nowt to worry about. See the link in my post above, that's all that could happen (i.e. you would get off the claim in Court and the DVLA will v likely offer no evidence).PRIVATE 'PCN'?
