You can take pounds.
In Marmaris you can probably use 90% of your money in pounds & just change a little at a time for small bits.
You can often get a better deal on buying with pounds or euros in Turkey.
Make sure you have a crisp £10 for each of you for the visa at the airport.
Bring lots of £10's & some pound coins too for small purchases at the markets.0 -
Hi
Thinking of going to Dalaman in Turkey - does the same apply regarding pounds there or should I take turkish lira?Keep the Faith:cool:0 -
I would take small amount of lira & sterling - And your Nationwide card

Though tbh the turks will take anything with monetary value

I went to Turkey last year and was told by the locals that they would rather have Euros than sterling but they will take anything and do the exchange rate in their heads

We found that euros were easier to get the hang of as we could work out the exchange rate ourselves. To be honest, i would stick to one currency so you can remember what you're doing but make sure to take a crisp £10 note each for your visa. I know it was said before but it's very important :rolleyes:0 -
Whits
The Euro/Sterling preference is dependant on areas. More Brits go to the dalaman region (marmaris/icemeler etc) so sterling is preferred. Whereas our continental friends tend to go to the Antalya region (Alanya/Side) so Euros are used more
But as i said they will take anything:p

just got back from marmaris last week...as poster says above they take anything. DONOT change money at the airport they give a pathetic exchange rate compared to other aiports about 20% less. Use either GBP£ or the cash machine outside.
what shocked me is that some shops only want your GBP£ not Turkish Lira!0 -

I found this as well when I was over there. Apparently they keep hold of the sterling until the winter. When the exchange rate goes up to around 3lira to the pound, they cash it all in and make themselves a little extra money.0 -
Just got back from Marmaris. Exchange rate was 2.51 YTL to the pound. If you change your cash in one go say £500+ ask the change office for a better rate - every little helps.
