Turkey.What currency to take

Off to Turkey this Thursday, and was wondering what my best options are in relation to which, and what quantity of currency to take.Do I take Lira,or Sterling,or travellers cheques.and if I take Sterling, what denominations are best?

Any advice gratefully received.

But would you get sterling in exchange or lira, and are you likely to get ripped off?
