Consumer right buying from a shop

Hello,

I need a quick answer. I bought a dictaphone recording device from a shop. I feel that I overpaid about 3 times it's normal price. Can I ask for a refund if it's within the first seven days, if I have not used it? I am familiar with the distance selling act, however, this was purchased in a shop.

Thank you for your response.

You have no legal rights to ask for a refund, regardless of whether you think it was overpriced, however the shop may offer you a refund if you ask for one, it depends on their policy and assuming it's in the original packaging.

All you can do is ask :)

I know from my law class that you are entitled to ask for a refund but the strange thing about your post is, is that if you feel that it was overpriced (and not just overpriced but you overpaid by 3 times) why did you buy it in the first place?

I made an impulse purchase at the time. I only realised how much more I paid once I got home.

Hayley, I thought the same. However, I just wanted to check in case.

You are not entitled to a refund because you have changed your mind, or because it is cheaper elsewhere (though their T&Cs may include a price promise)

Many of the high street retailers will offer refunds if you change your mind, goods don't fit because you didn't try them for size, your other half didn't like the present etc..... but they are not obliged to - they offer out of courtesy and goodwill, and as thus exceed your statutory rights.

Unless they offer this as part of their terms and conditions - no.

You say you "feel" you overpaid 3 times the amount.Well, did you or didn't you?
Are you saying this item is normally 3 times cheaper in all high street shops,or have you now scoured the net-afterwards? And are we talking about like for like? ie an identical make and model.

What do you mean by that? Because obviously anybody is entitled to ask for a refund. Do you mean that you learnt in your law class that they are entitled to a refund? Because that's incorrect. Your post isn't very clear though. :)

All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.
