buffet ideas for 100+ on a budget?

Hi all
Its my MIL's 60th soon and she would love a buffet with her party. She doesn't feel able to ask all invited to bring and share, soooo on a small budget what can you clever lot think of?

Hows about a bbq ???
You can pick up some real cheap burgers etc at the moment !! Serve with fried onions, cheese slices, salad, and fresh baps ??

My DD went to a 'do' recently and instead of a buffet, they had big pans of stew and curry, and big pans of rice, some bread etc.
Much cheaper than a buffet and she said it tasted better than curly ham sarnies!

I've already suggested the above ideas as I think they are just great. But she wants the buffet with sausages rolls etc etc

forgot to add the budget is really tight about £100. Is this achievable?

When we got married we self caterd for over 120 peeps....it was around £100 mark ( we borrowed a bookers card)...

Yes it's plenty. I remember standing in my kitchen once with my sis in law, buttering 10 loaves of bread and laying on meat, cheese etc. Just watch the price of the boiled ham it might be cheaper to buy a small ham and boil/slice it yourself.

I agree with Barneysmom hot food is the way to go.I served Meat and Potato Pie,Mushy Peas,Gravy and red cabbage as the food after my daughters christening and it disappeared like magic and everyone commented on how much better it was to have hot food rather than cold sandwiches and sausage rolls.So I'd seriously consider chilli and rice or curry and rice and maybe beef stew and dumplings.They can be kept warm on the table warmers so if there is no cooking facilities at the venue there shouldnt be a problem.A couple of large trifles and cream sponges should suffice for the sweet side of things.I definitely think £100 would be more than ample for this

hi , how about getting a few large baguettes ,thinly slice top with passata sauce and a little grated cheese and make your own bruchetta's this should only be a couple of quid for that ,smart price sausage frozen sausage rolls are 69p for 50 so 6 packs should be plenty .
if any one is any good at pastry making mini quiches will be cheap to make , make some little mini toad in the holes they are fine eaten cold ,
sandwich fillings could be savoury cheese some grated cheese mixed with diced onion and peppers mixed with mayo a little of this goes a long way ,
egg mayo also goes a long way ,.
also how about some rolls in a big basket with a selection of fillings around it so people can help themselves.
or a big dish of cream crackers with some sliced cheese and soft cheeses .
it may be cheaper to buy a beef or pork joint and cooking and slicing it yourself for a meat platter0
