Bathroom Quote

I'm doing up my flat, and the last room to be done is the bathroom. I've recently had my kitchen done, apart from the tiles which could do to be removed and replaced.

I had a local guy come around and give me a quote including a few bits on the kitchen, and he has given me the following figures - labour only.
Bathroom:
- Old suite and tiles removed and disposed of.
- Making good of walls if necessary
- Tiling of walls
- Vinyl floor fitted
- New suite fitted
- Shower/bath mixer and slide rail fitted
- Extractor fan replaced
- Boxing in of pipework
- New light fitting
- Other fittings

Kitchen:
- Remove tiles
- Replacing of tiles
- Plasterboard replaced in ceiling

There would be him (a plumber), a tiler/carpenter and a electrician doing this work. I'm not sure how long it would take - he didn't put that in his quote.

Is this reasonable? I'm not horrified by it, I was sort of expecting that much!

My bathroom is 8 x 8 ft by the way.

Whoops - sorry about the missing figures.

The figure was £1600 for LABOUR only, all in.

Good afternoon: Very cheap for anywhere in the Southeast, let alone Battersea (where the OH has done a great deal of work over the years)...have you seen their work or have they been recommended to you? Let us know how you get on.

I told him from the start that I was a poor FTB with little cash, and who wanted a new bathroom fitting. I did a fair bit of eyelash batting as well.

Here is the guy who provided the quote:

Hi again: My OH has had the eyelash thing and more:eek:.... but he's an old dog now and besides, he has to keep in me in the fashion to which I have become accustomed;) (plus I write up the quotes and help him out on occasion therefore I can 'follow the money' and bat away the' honeys'...poor Corgi Guy!!)

Best of luck with your project.

    Thanks for your advice, Canuckle!

I too think this sounds like a good deal - I'll get a couple more quotes first tho. I want to know how long the whole project will take first...

Good morning: My OH says your job would take approx. 12-14 working days...although that figure is based on a solo performance...i.e. your plumber can tile, self-certify new electrical installations, do carpentry, plasterboard, and of course plumbing, which my all singing, all dancing OH can do to a high standard;) If they throw lots of bodies at it then the timeline would shorten. On a final note, check that the company has liability insurance, particularly if you have a flat:eek:
