Hi, I am so excited, so sorry if I've posted in the wrong place, but FINALLY our babies have started to arrive. So far we have 2 yellow ones and 1 brown. They have been sitting on 13 eggs so not sure how many we will get. They are so tiny and cute and worn out from the hard work of hatching. Both the females have been sitting on the nest so the babies looked squashed!
Can't wait till tomorrow when todays hatchings will be moving around the pen.
Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement. Bye::D

reminds me, last week I went out running and when we stopped for a quick breather and stretch at a canal bridge we were suddenly surrounded by some proud parents and a bunch of 9 ducklings (that had perfected the art of begging!!). Of the 9, eight were standard brown and one was a really pale yellow. There were several comments on the lines of 'that's the milkman's:)'I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

:eek::eek::eek: Noooo!!!!
Don't worry mistresslenore I know you're just having a laugh. The ducklings will one day end up on a plate as that's reality. But like any living creature they deserve to have a life first, poor wee things....awww. The thought of eating a baby animal or bird makes me want to throw up.
A couple of years ago I had to do a fairly sudden stop in a main road - there was a mummy duck leading her six little baby ducklings from one side of the road to the other. Sooo cute...but so dangerous for them. At least the traffic did stop and they made it across.
I do hope some pictures get posted.

Hi Guys, I'm not very technical, so hubby will do the photos for me, hopefully might get some tomorrow. My girls are so excited, I thought I was bad!!!
We have put a small bowl of water ready for them so mum can teach them to drink and get their feet wet. They cant go on the main pond for a few days as the mum has to oil their feathers so they dont go soggy.
I cant wait for the morning to see how many more we got. We heard another shell cracking earlier so def one more.:j0 -
Forgot to say, if you have any good tips Penny-Pincher they would be gratefully received.
No offence taken at the chicken recipe, he he!!
We have 3 adults, a white male called Berty, a white female called Gerty and a brown one called Betty. We will keep 1 of the babies (don't know how we will choose, but garden is not enormous). Berty and Gerty are named after my Mum and OH Dad and heaven knows where Betty came from!!0 -
i'd also love to see photos of the little baby ducklings! we used to see them every summer at university, wandering around - now I'm in a big city there's not much chance of accidently seeing any!
congratulations!!:happyhear0 -
We have 5 this morning. Hubby taken pictures and he will put photos on this afternoon. They are soooooooo cute. Trying to flap their tiny wings, they are climbing all over the 2 mums who don't seem to mind. There is another egg that is cracking so should be number 6 soon.
I just want to sit out there and watch them. Kids didn't want to go to work/college/school this morning.0
