  • Hi, I`ve just spoken to my daughter who visited Poland last year. Her advice is, there is more to see in Krakow than Warsaw so it would be best to either spend the same amount of time in both or spend the 4 days in Krakow. If, for instance you wanted to visit Auschwitz you need a day. She also points out that if you are going on one of the Budget airlines they don`t fly out of Krakow they fly from Katowice which is about an hour away.

CLICK HERE to read something I wrote when I visited in April.

The trains are very good and cheap, just make sure you have what you want and where you want to go to from Polish to English on a translation site on the internet - will be easier.

I'd second that about spending more time in Krakow than Warsaw.
Warsaw is fine, Krakow is fabulous.
    Have a great stay!

Off topic I know, but Bertie did you know that the Charities Commission investigated the RNLI a few years ago and told them they had to spend more money as they were collecting more in subsriptions/donations that what they were expending????

    Absolutely agree with that.

Much of Krakow (the ancient Polish capital) survived WW2. The 'rynek' (city market square) is world famous and the Wawel castle is worth seeing, as is the old Jewish quarter.

Sadly, the Nazis destroyed most of Warsaw as a reprisal for the city's uprising against them. Anything you'll see there is modern or modern reconstruction.

Reverse your plan and make Krakow your main objective. A fantastic place and in the same league as Prague, Vienna etc when it comes to central European cities but vastly underrated by comparison.

It is absolutely wrong that budget arilines don't fly to Krakow. Both Ryanair and Easyjet have it as a main destination. Visit their websites and see for yourself.

I visited Warsaw in March and was sort of expecting it to be a bit drab but I thought it was lovely. Granted, it doesn't hit you with as much of a 'wow' as when you visit somewhere like Prague for the first time but the more I think about it, the more I realise just how nice it was.

My brother was recently in Krakow and absolutely raved about it.

In both cities you can eat and drink like a king for not many zlotys. The Polish people seem to suffer from a lack of confidence in themselves and their country - they shouldn't because it is a wonderful place.

Whatever you do, have a fantastic time.

No - but thanks for the info however I still feel it is one of the most worthy causes to give to. Got nothing to do with living near the sea as I couldn't be further away from it.

To the OP - have a nice stay in Poland.

I would agree totally with the other posters that you want to spend more time in Krakow than Warsaw.
Krakow is old and very charming (we also visited the salt mines and Auchwitz from there).
I didn't think much of the salt mines but Auchwitz was very respectful and interesting.

Warsaw is also interesting but most of it was demolished in WWII so there is not much in the way of old buildings.
Lots of monuments and museums etc. but it doesn't have the architeture and old town charm of Krakow.

I really enjoyed both, but would spend more time in Krakow.
