Asprea + Norwich Union Buildings Insurance

Hi,

I am currently putting a insurance claim though with Marks & Spencer's, who have gave my claim to Norwich Union to handle, who have then appointed my work to a company called Asprea.

after calling me a week late they have booked in a surveyors visit for 6 working days time just to look at the problem, and advise that the works cant be done until at least 2 weeks after that.

I Would like to know how good they are at doing their work, and how efficient/reliable they can be from anyones experience?

Kind regards people.

  • Hi

I just wanted to let you know that Asprea are one of our approved suppliers and we do have a formalised feedback system in place - if and when we recieve negative feedback we do act on it.

I don't think this is necessarily the answer you were after, but i just wanted to pop on and try and put your mind at rest! I hope this helps and good luck with the claim.

  • Asprea are horrible and as a consequence I would never get insurnace with Barclays or Norwich Union again

I had a leak in August 2007. It is now January 2008 and I am no closer to knowing when Asprea will get someone to complete the work.

Asprea never return my phonecalls or emails. They never keep me informed. I have to chase them daily and still get no information. Their phone lines are terrible making you believe no one is ever there although it is quite a large company. Asprea have been telling me something different to what they have told the contractors and what they have told the insurers

Avoid using Asprea like the plague!
  • MATHERJ - Is this an NU policy? Is it maybe something I can look at for you?

If you'd like to email me (rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk) I'll happily investigate if I can.

That is the one problem with preferred supplier schemes. They know they've got the job in the bag so do not need to jump through hoops to keep the client's customer (the insurers policyholder) happy.

Perhaps Beccus would care to explain what the procedure is if you wish to use your own contractor. After all, 6 weeks is a joke.

I will find out about that for you.
In terms of preferred suppliers, I can also clarify that as a company we are working very hard to make sure all feedback is taken on board and used to help us make good choices. We know that sometimes we don't get it right, but we are determined to keep working at it. So this kind of feedback is vital to us.

    All the best

I've had a scout around and found the process for using your own contractor.

Firstly we would ask you to get them to do an estimaate to carry out the work including a list of the work you are having done.
We will then agree a payment figure. The figure will be take into account the estimates that our own contractors would give us for the same scope of work.

Never be afraid to ask for your own contractor to do the work, but be prepared to have a discussion with your claim handler.

    Hope this helps

  • Same applies with motor insurance doesnt it Beccus?

It's been years since I was in a motor accident however I put a claim in with the brokers and then went next door to a ford dealers and got what they called a pro rata quote. When typed up the dealers gave it the brokers and I got a letter xxx time later saying bring the car in such and such the insurance has okay'd the work.

absolutely, we need to know how much your repairer/contracter is charging and for what work. We are open to these discussions.

It misses the point though if your contractor has quoted a low price to do a half hearted job safe in the knowledge that they are likely to get the job and can then proceed at their own pace.

A better comparison would be against two other contractors plus the preferred supplier. Takes longer to get the quotes but at least the policyholder may end up with a contractor they have confidence in.
  • I too am not impressed by Asprea, I had a serious fire in my on the 14 December last, a company called Rainbow International were sent in to do the clean up etc, I had a call from Asprea to make an appt for someone to assess the work required, he turned up took one look at the outside of the house (from the back where it actually doesn`t show there was a fire) and said "It affects the whole house doesn`t it?", yes it does, "In that case there`ll have to be another appt made, I need at least 3 hours to assess it".

Fine I get another call saying they can`t come til 28th Dec, he turns up, I leave him to it (Rainbow are still there too at this point), I get a call just over an hour later to say he`s leaving.

Then nothing, I call the Loss Adjusters who eventually get Asprea who say they are having a problem getting an Asbestos removal company (house was built in 1970).

I finally receive a copy of the assessment from Asprea on the 12th Feb this year, its dated the 7th feb!!!, it starts "On inspection there has been a fire in the property", very observant chap:rolleyes:

I read through all that he has said needs doing to put the property right, the fire was in the living and was mainly smoke and of course lots of heat, the window is badly cracked in two places and loose to the touch, this hasn`t been put down for replacement!.

I kept calling the Loss Adjusters who keep calling Asprea, finally I get told that a company has been appointed to do the work of Asbestos removal and the restoration, they call me on 3rd March and tell me they can`t send someone til today:eek: , they came today and tell me they have to go back to Asprea for permission to overspend as they`ve picked up on the stuff Asprea missed, so, who knows how much longer I have to wait to get my house back:confused:

Meanwhile I`m staying with a friend and my two dogs and 3 cats are stuck in kennels where they`ve been since the day of the fire:mad:

I`ve just read on the net that Asprea have the contract for 3 years, hopefully they won`t get it again!!
