Amex Platinum 0%, anyone?

Options
Hi all,

While checking my hotmail, I came across an Amex banner which redirected me to a page to apply for the Amex Platinum at 0% for 6 mths BT & purchases.

However when I click the apply button it redirects to another page which shows 4.9% BT.

If anone is interested in applying ... the link is:

www.americanexpress.com/uk/ptd/platinum/platinum_turn01.shtml

I also believe that the must honour their promise and give a 0% card to applicants via this page.

Hope it helps!!!

Has anyone given it a try?

AMEX customer services know nothing about this promotion. They do have a 0% on purchases platinum card but it is for telephone applications only and the APR is 14.9% after the 0% period.
  • I tried it and I am now scared. What if it was not the real thing. How can I protect myself?

As I said, the link DOES exist but when you click on the apply button, it redirects you to other page with 4.9%BT.

Have you given them the web link?
  • itdoes exist. my heart stopped for a few minutes there thinking i gave all my info to a fraudulent mail.

    thanks.

monkeysnail, please post the outcome of your application to us. I'm really curious about them honouring their 0% BT+Purch offer.

    cheers!!!!

The only strange thing about this link is you can't seem to get to it from the Amex home page so maybe it is either a new page they are getting ready for a promotion, or an old page which has been left on the website without a link.

If you read the T&Cs for the Amex website it says they do not allow or support hyperlinks to their web pages from outside of their website so by going directly to the 0% page from a hotmail link (or from MSE forum!!) they could refuse to honour the 0% deal. Will be interesting to see how this progresses.
  • If you press the apply button it will direct you to their main website. From their main website, you go to credit cards and choose platinum.

Yes but that has a different offer of 4.9 % p.a. permanently low Balance Transfer rate, for balances transferred in the first 6 months not 0%.

bob_builder, please refer to my first post. I said it re-directs you to a page with 4.9%BT.

I suppose they should have deleted this page from their web server, because anyone can still access this page and apply (although cannot find 0% BT anywhere).

monkeysnail, I don't know if this forum allows it, but can I suggest you to use a firefox browser and install the anti-spoof plugin. Them you can clearly see which address you are actually visiting and therefore have a peace of mind.

I am tempted to apply for this card, but think I'll go for the LloydsTSB Amex which has 0% 9mths BT.
