I was going to send off for the Vista upgrade but was warned away from it. With only 512Mb RAM, it would struggle with the resource hungry Vista. You would need to upgrade the memory. I'll be sticking with XP

Is it not worth getting the upgrade disk anyway, incase you decide to upgrade the laptop at a later date?
  • I know this is very hard to believe but this is what I got in their Bangor (Northern Ireland) store on Saturday afternoon. It was an ex-demo so had a few scuff marks. It also had a 1 year warranty.

I got and Advent 1500MHz intel celeron processor
    60 GB Hard Drive
    512Mb Ram
    4 USB ports
    Built in mic, speakers, modem.
    DVD +/- RW drive
Preloaded Windows XP home and MS Works

    All for £213.97!! (inclusive.)

Got them down to £388 (matched https://www.technoworld.co.uk price)
Taken delivery of this laptop now ad I must say I am very impressed! I heard Acer were good:T
The display is very similar to the Sony Vaio (glossy and bright) if you like that sort of thing, dead easy to setup and got it hooked into the wireless for internet, printing and file sharing easy peasy.
The DVD writer is a Pioneer and they are very good too (also reads DVD RAM disks).
    Laptopdirect were very efficient too!
