Friend's landlord claims he's registered the deposit with a company but their computers were down that day so no print out to confirm.
Also no gas certificate - check done but some faults found with boiler and cooker.
Who should he get in touch with (After nagging landlord once more)?
I've suggested tenancy relations officer at the local council - that's all I can think of.

Agree TRO contact a good idea.
HSE deal with non-compliance on gas safety see here : http://www.hse.gov.uk/gas/domestic/faqtenant.htm
Your friend can check with each of the 3 deposit schemes him/herself to see whether the deposit is registered see here for contact info http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TenancyDeposit/DG_066391 and check out Stevey Lomas' thread on deposits & court at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=8354210 -
He has to be given details of the way the deposit has been registered within 14 days of payment (of the deposit). The details must include
- the contact details of the tenancy deposit scheme selected
- the landlord or agent’s contact details
- how to apply for the release of the deposit
- information explaining the purpose of the deposit
- what to do if there is a dispute about the deposit
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Its well past 14 days - I've just mailed him that info so he can go through that and find out. They've not give him anything.

With regards the deposit, the tenant would need to bring their own legal action against the LL requesting either the immediate return of the deposit or that it is placed in an appropriate deposit scheme. Compensataion of up to 3x the value of the deposit may also be awarded.
The LL is very silly not to have secured the deposit under an appropriate scheme as it now means he has lost any opportunity to ever evict you under the 'shorthold' rules of an assured shorthold tenancy agreement.
With regards the lack of gas safety checks, that is a criminal offence, Report the matter to the HSE who will act to prosecute the LL.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2006/e06054.htm...If you are living in rented accommodation your landlord has a duty to have any gas appliance that they own regularly serviced by a CORGI registered installer and issue you with a copy of the gas safety certificate following the annual safety check. Contact HSE if your landlord does not, on request, provide you with a copy of the certificate...
...Every year 20-30 people die from CO poisoning associated with domestic gas appliances, due mainly to these appliances not having been properly installed or maintained. HSE’s role is to enforce the legislation aimed at preventing such tragedies...
For their own personal safety, I would suggest they obtain carbon monoxide dectectors and perhaps arrange to have the checks carried out themselves by a suitably trained corgi engineer."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Yeah I will pass this on to him. I think he's given them plenty of chances. They did get someone to do a check but haven't made the repairs.
Friend has rung up several times about it.
He had sent a surveyor round which was todo with "landlords finances" rather than anything to do with the gas.
I will nag him to get it sorted later today.

http://www.trustcorgi.com/consumer/Documents/Gas%20Safety%20Fact%20Sheet.pdfIf you think that any gas appliance is unsafe, turn it off. and do not use it until you’ve been told it is safe by a CORGI registered member. It is against the law to use, or allow the use of, a gas appliance that you know or think is unsafe.
Tell them to ensure only an appropriately authorised corgi engineer should work on any gas appliance. Get them to check the workmans certificate - if he's says he's left it at the office or some other excuse, don't let the guy touch the appliance.
Note also that corgi registration comes in many parts. Ensure the certificate covers the type of work the engineer is going to perform."Now to trolling as a concept. .... These are a good idea anyway - we have one, and our boiler's been checked yearly anyway. A lot can happen in a year, and they aren't expensive....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Premier - I have noticed that when you are in a good mood you give very good, helpful and acurate advice. If you could do this all the timei nstead of being grumpy you would be a great asset on this boardLoretta0 -

The trouble is that I speak my mind. Maybe it's a Northern thing, I don't know.
Some people don't seem to like it when I disagree with them. I think this would be a very dull world if we all agreed with each other. However, I don't like it when the bullying rent-a-mob crowd decend on here and start attacking posters, whether that be me or other posters; it doesn't help this forum one bit"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
