Why do my t-shirts shrink when they are washed? They dont shrink by much but a little so you can notice it, and its not all my t-shirts either.
Any reasons for this?
Thanks

I would think you've probably got them on too hot a wash and depending on the material you will get some shrinkage. I don't usually wash our clothes over 40 degrees - it's not necessary. Try a cooler wash. I don't want to state the obvious but have you checked the label?

Just to sound odd.:o A friend got my b/f a t shirt for his birthday that is way too big for him.. any ideas on how I can shrink it a bit on purpose lol. Maybe a hotter wash as you say?0

Do you tumble dry them? This will shrink things. If you iron them it will stretch them out again.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Are they tube style, or do they have seams down the sides? Tube style ones usually do shrinkMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

I'm famous for shrinking things by putting them in the tumble drier. It's not that I don't check, just that I don't check carefully enough. I often buy things bigger and wash and tumble dry them on the first wash - once they've shrunk they don't get any smaller on further washes.0

Aren't those little symbols on the label just too confusing? That square with a circle in it means (I think) okay to tumble dry, but there is a very similar symbol (pthstt.. making tongue twisters here ) that means something totally unrelated, like do not bleach or do not dry clean.
In a rush, I don't always have time to fish out my "what it all means" list (cut from the back of a Persil packet some decades ago - they don't seem to all be on the current day washing powder packs) so sometimes just take a chance.
What bugs me more than anything is that in this day and age of everything being designed for ease and quickness, more and more clothes are labelled "hand wash only". Nope - no way!
And I still regret the lovely skirt I left on the rail in TK Maxx because it was "specialist clean only" - yeah, £15 for the skirt and £20 for the cleaning - I think not.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe0
