Economy 7 - two standing charges very expensive

The comparison sites don't seem to have Economy 7 built into their calculations so don't really help a lot.
The Which? comparison site deals with Economy 7. It asks total kWh and what %age was off-peak. (at least it did when I used it).

If gas is only for cooking it may be worth considering Ebico. The charge per kWh is high but there is no standing charge. Useful for low users.

There are E7 installations where there are two meters but the standing charge is not per meter is is per supply.
Do you have any authority for this as I have a meter with two MPANs and have run into suppliers wanting to charge two standing charges. It would be useful to be able to quote some regulations in response.0 -
All comp sites allow the option of selecting E7 or a single rate tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Two MPANs = Two Supply Point = Two Standing Charges, One MPAN (regardless of number of meters = One Supply Point = One Standing Charge.
Do you have any authority for that?
I have previously only been charged one standing charge. I ran into the two standing charge thing when I tried to switch and was surprised by it.0 -

My quote came from Wikipedia - A Meter Point Administration Number, also known as MPAN, Supply Number or S-Number, is a 21-digit reference used in Great Britain to uniquely identify electricity supply points such as individual domestic residences. The gas equivalent is the Meter Point Reference Number. The system was introduced in 1998 in order to provide a competitive environment for the electricity companies, and allows consumers to switch their supplier easily as well as simplifying administration. Although the name suggests that an MPAN refers to a particular meter, an MPAN can have several meters associated with it,[1] or indeed none where it is an unmetered supply. A supply receiving power from the network operator (DNO) has an Import MPAN, while generation and microgeneration projects feeding back into the DNO network are given Export MPANs.
to which I would add
https://www.eonenergy.com/new-connections/FAQs What is an MPAN?
Also known as the Supply Number. It is the unique registration number given to each domestic and small business electricity customers.
The only time there should be 2 MPANs is where there is an export meter - even where the two registers are physically in the same meter.Never pay on an estimated bill0 -

That is wrong there are other instances when you can have 2 MPANs. It is possible to have 2 MPANs and 1 meter.
Yes I have one meter, supplying one property, but two MPANs. It is for a heatwise set up.
Such a nuisance. I could do with working out whether it is in fact permissible to charge two standing charges in this situation or not as it would make a big difference to my bills.0 -
As far as i'm aware there are no regulations regarding the number of Mapns and the number of standing charges.
There are plenty of metering set ups that have 2 mpans and 2 meters and also ones which have 1 one meter and multiple mpans. As mentioned E.on have heatwise (also known as Energy Plan), this is is also offered by EDF as is Warmwise. Both of these are 1 meter with multi mpans0 -

Right, so what you have is E10/Heatwise,not E7, nor can you check that tariff on any comp site, as most suppliers do not support it. You have two options: try and find a better Heatwise tariff by manual calculation, or switch the metering to a conventional E7 system with a single MPAN, which will give access to all the suppliers in the market, including OVO.
There will be a one-off meter change cost, and possibly some rewiring on the consumer side, which must be done by your own sparky, but the savings may make it worthwhile in the long term.
IIRC, the only 2 suppliers who still support E10 are EoN and EDF. It's not a great system for NSH's unless you need that afternoon boost, which correctly set and sized NSH's should not.
Update: you may find this article useful: it states that Eon no longer offer E10 to customers with an older E10 meter which has 2 MPAN's. Which indicates that, should you wish to stay on E10, it it worth a meter change to avoid paying 2 standing charges.. If you are with Eon, this is free. Or switch to E7 from next month, and there will be no charge for the meter change.
