Can I switch to one of the cheaper basic providers in the new year which don't have an exit fee, and then sign back on with Eon in say six months on their cheap deal for new customers? I would want to do that to get the Warm Home Discount next year.
You can certainly do this poppasmurf but please be aware, our tariffs can be pulled from sale at any time. The one you're interested in might not be available when you start a switch back.
Hope this helps.

My v19 tariff finishes on 21/01/2017 so my price protection window starts i assume 7 weeks before on 3 december. I'm considering moving to a small supplier Robinhoodenergy which says it has a 14 day cooling off period.Does this mean I can switch right now?0

Your new contract starts on the day that you apply to switch not when the transfer goes through. E.oN's price protection window starts at 49 days to go to the end of your contract. You might get away with it if the new supplier doesn't notify E.oN of the switch but most inform the old supplier ASAP to start the 17 day switching process. The 17 days is taken from the date that the new supplier receives your application to switch. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. My e.on deal has just ended and my cheapest is apparently Sainsbury's Energy but their reviews are terrible. Does anyone have their own view?0

Don't believe everything that you read on websites. People with issues tend to post: the millions who have no issues tend to stay quiet. Even the Big 6 can get it wrong from time to time. Have a look at the data on supplier complaints at Citizens Advice which is probably a more objective view of a supplier's service standards. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It's a shame more people didn't opt for the E.on 2 year fix, in the summer. It turned out to be the right time to take a 2 year fix?
I know most people, (including myself,) wouldn't normally advocate opting for a two year fix, and i didn't want to lose the remaining months of E.on's fixed V19, but it turned out to be a good choice on this occasion, for what was to be E.on's last competitive deal, virtually the same as V19, (for me at least,) as i still gained, in effect, an extra 18 months on the last pre brexit collective deal.
Switching regularly is going to be a thing of the past, for the time being, at any rate? (for those who have been making the most of collective switching.) Maybe things will settle by the time i have to switch again? Who knows, but i will certainly consider switching from E.on too, for the right tariff, WHD etc.
Until then, i have my heating on.............Fred - Where's your get up and go?
Barney - It just got up and went.

I tried to do just that, but was rejected because my meters were incorrectly listed as prepay. Now that's finally sorted, but all the decent fixes are long gone.0 -

Morning andreww111 and you're right.
As your current tariff ends on 21 January 17, to avoid exit fees and higher prices, best to start a switch around 3 December 16. Although applications come through fairly quickly, not all suppliers follow similar timescales. Might be worth making an allowance for this when applying.
Switches usually complete in about two and half weeks assuming the new supplier has signed up for faster switching. Most have, I believe, but not sure about everyone.
Hope this helps.

Hello hilljd00. Don't forget about the Price Protection window I mentioned earlier in this thread. This is open 49 calendar days before a tariff end date until 20 working days after. Provided we're told, we'll keep you on the lower prices and waive any exit fees whilst a change of supplier goes through.
As your tariff has just ended, a new supplier needs to apply for the account before the window closes. If they don't, you'll be on our standard tariff from the end of your current deal.
Sorry to lose you hilljd00 but hope this helps.

Hello ChaunceyGardiner and welcome to the Forums.
It does take a while for systems to be updated following a meter exchange. As well as our own systems, we need to let other parties involved with your energy supply know about the new circumstances. This includes the energy distributors, meter operators and readers and the national databases.
Glad it's sorted. You'll be able switch now but sorry if it's too late to go with your preferred tariff.
