That is a great idea, although I don't have contact with them directly (all goes though customer service people) -- 'Widget LTD' isn't our only customer, so it's not like we are a captive testing service for them, but rather work for a few different companies in the 'Widget' space. But I would love to work in-house for one of the companies!!
It scares me **less to set up by myself and give up the certainty (ha!) of working for an established company but perhaps I should? At least then uncertainty from decisions made by distant bosses would be replaced by uncertainty from decisions made by me? But then our position is precarious here so I don't know.0 -
do you monitor all the widget ltd for job vacancies, not just their web sites but agencies.
are they local enough.0 -
I don't know, and this is my final attempt ...How has this gone on for 7 pages........
My DH has a very pragmatic approach to guilt.I want to get out but how can I leave that guilt behind?- Is the guilt justified? ie have I done something wrong?
- If yes, do something to put it right - apologise, do better, make restitution or whatever.
- If no, tell the guilt to sling its hook.
And there is an old Chinese proverb I have mentioned elsewhere: you can't stop the birds landing on your head, but you CAN stop them nesting in your hair.
In my view, you have nothing to feel guilty about in relation to your work. Where you might feel justifiable guilt - ie there is something you should try to put right - is in the way you've prioritised your work over your relationships.
CBT and counselling have been mentioned. I don't know if they'd help or not. But frankly, nothing will help unless YOU decide YOU really want things to change - whether that's your job, your reaction to your job, your priorities.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Well....... They've concluded the review and at least 3 (of our team of 8) will be gone, leaving 5 to do the job of 8 people who were already stretched. So now the workload will be even more. I gave everything I could and I didn't manage to keep everything running - I don't know what to do, or perhaps more importantly what to say to those affected. I did what I could, but if only I'd been able to do more. They are out on the streets just before Christmas, and it's my fault!
My being "on call" during holiday, "forgetting" £100s of overtime, pushing things under the carpet, it means nothing. I am gutted.
Edited to add: Morale is through the floor, of course. The 'standard' (rather than 'Senior') staff aren't inclined to do anything constructive, and I can't blame them. We still have deadlines though. I'm literally the only person bothering to carry out any of these tasks, and I've been here on average 6am-8pm all this week.
When they made the announcement people had to go - they were sent home to "absorb the news" despite deadlines. And they went - leaving the rest of us in the lurge.0 -

OK, I don't know how old you are but I probably have kids your age, so here goes. You need a really good shake, look in the mirror, really look. Do you like what you see? You have a life outside of work, but currently it is coming a very poor second, if it is even in the ring.
I still am not sure this is for real, if it is you are definitely damaged, whether from your background or from your need to believe that only you are accountable. Let it go, you have done your best, is that not true?
This company is sucking you dry, draining the lifeblood from you, and you are allowing it, resign now. Move on and don't ever make the mistake of believing that you are indispensible again. Find a new company and aim for well paid obscurity.0 -

This is going to sound harsh but reasoning has so far had no impact on you at all. Wallowing will get you nowhere. You are crediting yourself with far more influence than you actually have and it's sounding really unhealthy now. Not the effect on you, but your interpretation of it all.
For all your protestations, you don't want to change anything, you seem to want to continue to play the martyr. The only person who can change this is you, and for whatever reasons you don't want to.
I'm out.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I offered to be laid off in place of one of the others, as they have children and I don't (and are the main provider), but management wouldn't consider it - "it's done on the basis of merit and what we need from staff going forward" or something like that.0

And you think it is because you are indispensable? No, it is because you are behaving like a mug and they are taking advantage of it, and probably laughing about it behind your back. Like others, I am am out. I don't do martyrs and you are wallowing in it. If you stay you deserve what you get.0
