Can you not type in the address manually instead of using the "find address" button ?
• I used to work for an organisation (not a CRA) which dealt with electoral roll/address data and was for a couple of years involved in a project which combined all of the electoral data in the UK. We initially used Experian for this as they're collecting it anyway, but in the end we couldn't because their address formatting, especially for flats, what totally nuts.

Their view was always that the problems were in the margins for them, and that 98% right was good enough. The fact that the 2% could have a real problem didn't seem to matter.

It is in the CRA's financial interest to have errors on your 'report'. Most of us KNOW if we have been running our finances properly so why is it now necessary to get (and pay for) ALL those reports before you dare go into your bank/building society to apply for a mortgage? Yes it is so that you have chance to (pay to) get rid of their mistakes. If they are holding info on us it should be free to access it, not even the £2 charge and certainly not con people into paying a subscription.

Hi RedDwarf82,
Thank you for giving such a detailed reply. I can see that the address format is changing as the information is entered and understand that this affecting the information that is being retrieved when you view your report online.
The address information that we use comes from the post office database and so should match this.
I am passing your comments to our web development team and appreciate your feedback.
In the meantime if you are still experiencing difficulty in updating your address or adding a previous address in the correct format, please call or email customer service team who will be able to manually amend the address in your CreditExpert profile for you.
Kind regards
Neil

I am an official company representative of Experian. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. My residence, like the example given by RedDwarf82 above, has a flat number, building number and building name.

This leads constantly to CRAs and lenders creating "versions" of the address which are not as per Electoral Roll and Post Office database (although of course I always give them and use the right address.)

After several years I've managed to get the false "linked addresses" removed. It was gruelling, unpaid work done partly to the benefit of the CRAs - someone else corrects their data to ensure accuracy!!

The worst offender by miles was so called "Credit Expert" (a great misnomer), Experian, which I prefer to call Experiarse

Even now, every year without fail, this outfit doesn't load my address in the Electoral Roll section and I have to work to help and correct the *unts.

They always say the problem is because of the format of the address that the Council supplies (which I have checked repeatedly and is always correct), even though the other 2 CRAs have no such problem

So after repeating the problem 100 times to customerservice@creditexpert.co.uk you manage to make Credit Expert show correct information.
What guarantee you have the lender is receiving that same, correct, information?

You can write an email (actually 20-50 of them) to customerservice@creditexpert.co.uk so Credit Expert tells you you are in the electoral register. Does Experian now tell the lenders you are in the electoral register? Maybe yes, maybe not.

The CRA-lender interface is an untested one (it should be obvious Experian software developers have never listened about Test automation). Untested software is buggy. Buggy software acts randomly.

If we could use the "Logic way" we could see what the lenders see, which happens to be the only important thing. And then we could complain about the mistakes on that information.
It would also give lenders information about the quality of the information they receive. So they could make an informed decision about whether they should stay with Experian, or change to Equifax. Right now "everybody knows" that Experian is the biggest (i.e. "the best")... so lenders may prefer it. But that preference is not based on hard data.

Because they don't use one.

Lenders receive datasets that they run algorithms on. Lenders score you against their criteria at the time of application.

I'm afraid this reply just nails it. Different lenders have different criteria (and their own systems). Best of luck!

I know it was Christmas. But 2 weeks later... has the web development team said anything?

3 weeks. I can still see the same behaviour.

What's the feedback from the "web development team"?

The problem is still there and no feedback on progress.

You are not going to fix your bugs even when publicly shaming you about them?
This will to continue doing things wrongly no matter what is kind of impressive.

Can a moderator pick up the relevant posts into a new "Waiting for Experian to fix a bug" thread, and make it sticky?
