Holiday to Greece this summer

Hi
Do people think it is wise to book a holiday to a Greek island for this summer. I've hear all sorts of rumours about the Greek government raising VAT in restaurants and hotels. Also, I'm a bit concerned about their Euro status
Any thoughts?

Wait till they've left the Euro. Should be dirt cheap then0

VAT is only a request in Greece, their current situation is testament to thatChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Booked monday going sunday to Zante. Got a bargain, cheaper than going to Butlins, i'm not worried, can't wait0

Off to Corfu again in August...business as usual. There may be a 1 euro cashpoint tax on each withdrawal by then, won't break the bank.
All this was hovering over them last year the same! visitor numbers were a little down again due to 'uncertainty' and prices very cheap with places competing for business.
Worst case, may have to take more cash than usual and less on the Caxton card. The businesses I know out there all tell me they will only be taking Euros no matter what the Greek government or EU do.0 -

I'm currently wandering the islands - flights, buses, ferries all business as usual so far. Quid is a good 10% better than last year, so any VAT increase wouldn't really be a big deal. Bigger deal may be strikes, so if you need to be here and back within set dates, would be safer booking with an established tour operator rather than separate flights and accommodation.0

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply - I'm booking our holiday to Crete tomorrow!!!0

If the worst happens (They can't fudge their finances anymore and have to leave the Euro) just make sure to take some £ and € notes with you in case the ATM'S fail to work.0

I just came back. No issues. And I think we can't really rely on rumours.
The VAT rise (if it comes) would bring VAT up to levels still below the UK and you can bet would be covered by resturant owners (they would just make less money). And as far as booking a hotel, as far as I know.. they can't get back to you later and say "hey you owe us money!" once you've already paid!!
I agree that taking a few Euros with you might make sense but TBH I think introducing controls in the hight of the tourist season would be suicide for the Greek economy so pretty unlikely..0 -
We are booked to go to Corfu in August. I'm not worried, maybe we will take more money in cash rather than relying on ATMs apart from that I am just excited about going0
