Hi jinny, I generally use bottles with a levered cap.; and with my lot it's not around long enough to be a problem!

    Lemon Barley Water

Wash 3 tbsp. pearl barley in several waters. Put a fresh quart (2 pints) water with the barley into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the water, add juice of 2 lemons and sugar to taste.

    :) Afternoon all.

Am having an enjoyable Sunday thus far. I've minimised the household re one stick blender (to chazzer), made bread rolls, which are proving happily on a baking sheet on the stove, warmed by the oven being on to roast a chunk of silverside I got in Liddly's offer this week.

I have a challenge which I'd like some advice with. I have various fruit which is pretty ripe and would like to make a dessert, preferably some thing which I could delve into for several consecutive days. But I'm stumped because most of the things I can think of require fat of some kind (pastry or crumble, for example) and I have very little of that and want to keep it for pack-ups etc.

Have8 kiwi fruit, one 'nana, some oranges and apples, and white and dark brown sugar, custard power, plain and SR flour and various spices. Can some lovely person point me towards an idea for them?

Could you puree the ripe fruit and using the custard, make a fool with it? If you have nuts and breadcrumbs use them as a topping for a crumble-type pudding - just watch it doesn't burn though - you could stew the fruit first with a little sugar and then top with crumbs and nuts and put it in the oven to brown

Recipe: Truvy’s Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa from Steel Magnolias

Summary: Is Steel Magnolias one of your favorite movies? I tried Truvy’s recipe, and here it is.

    Ingredients
    1 cup flour
    1 cup sugar
1 cup fruit cocktail in heavy syrup
    Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, stir together ingredients. Spray an 8 x 8 inch square pan with non-stick spray and spoon in batter, spread to the edges. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Allow to cool until warm to the touch, cut into 16 squares.

Haven't tried this but looks good
Suppose you could make a syrup from the sugar n fruit

:T Well done on the scraping. I have just taken a dish of roast veg out of the oven and am bringing it from Gas 6 to 7 to bake them. They are plumptudinous as have been enjoying the warmth of the kitchen as the roast cooked.

Don't tend to cook roasts as just a singleton but got beef at a good price and will have hot today and cold cuts for the next two days and freeze the rest. Nom nom nom.
