Absolute budget headphones in rubbish shocker.
Move on OP.
Argos have some JVC in ear headphones for £4.99Don't be silly, they both need to be plugged in. How do you plug 2 sets of earphones into one device ?
Don't think your sarcasm detector is working well.
(Though I suppose a splitter could be used)0 -
I brought a pair of £2.99 headphones when I was 14 many years ago. They were complete garbage. Even my Normal £7.99 Sony ones from Argos were 1000000000000 times better.Iva started Dec 2018.0

That depends on if its a left and right thats working or two lefts, you may just end up with dual mono rather than stereo :rotfl:0 -
You need more evidence for statutory rights. Did you try the headphones with more than one device? Have you a radio, television, old Walkman you can test them with? If you find a second device that only yields one channel then get your money back.
As to 'they're only a pound' nonsense posts - no technical and mechanical reason whatsoever a pair of headphones can not be produced for a pound. Business model wise it may not be a very sound strategy - but that's not the consumer's concern.0 -

I think you are completely right.
The problem lies in the fact that pursuing and exercising your statutory rights will undoubtedly be impractical in an economic sense for practically everyone.
The problem is that a pound is relatively easy to earn in the world. You can work in a min wage job for less than 10 minutes, you can try your luck at busking, you could even beg passers by if you are that low on money. The point is that;
1. Everyone knows that a 1 pound pair of headphones are crap (but that doesn't affect your statutory rights)
2. The effort you put into getting them replaced twice or replaced then refunded (not to mention research time) could be better spent earning back the pound (and more) by other means.
3. You probably cost the company that amount in wages and other expenses by tying up a cashier/manager for 5-10 minutes when explaining the issue and arguing for a resolution without actually adhering to returns policies nor going in directly with a statutory complaint
So they aren't nonsense posts. In the context of a pound pair of headphones the consumer has chose the less economic solution for both parties.0 -

The OP does not need any evidence.
During the first six months after sale it is for the seller to prove that the goods were not faulty at the time of sale. The buyer doesn't have to prove anything.
I'll stop there, as anything more would be even sillier.0 -

Thank you Nada666! Yes I tested them on multiple devices. I was surprised by some answers; a pound is a pound and surely a Money Saving Expert doesn't disregard a pound. I was at home, sick as a parrot, with 25p to last the next 4 days, so suddenly a pound seemed a lot and I had time to spare and lacked the focus to do something more profitable.
Besides, there's a principle at stake. Of course I don't expect £1 headphones to be good, but I do expect any product sold in the UK to function.0 -

In a purely economic sense some battles are not worth pursuing, and this is almost certainly one of these.... I anticipate that you will cost them more than a pound in wages (although poundland should have given you the pound back straight away simply to make you go away). You will also invest your time which could otherwise be used to earn more than a pound elsewhere.I was at home, sick as a parrot, with 25p to last the next 4 days, so suddenly a pound seemed a lot and I had time to spare and lacked the focus to do something more profitable.
Implies that you are on the dole or something, and I would be interested to know how long you have been "sick as a parrot" for (ie does this affect your ability to work?). Points to consider;
1. Why mention the 25p if you have necessities such as plentiful food and toiletries in the house? You can have 0p to your name but as long as you can keep yourself alive it doesn't matter.
2. If point 1 doesn't apply then why are you spending 1 pound of your remaining 1.25 on a pair of headphones instead of something like food or bread?
3. You mention that you lacked the focus to do something more profitable? Not being funny but if you put as much effort as you have here (not to mention dragging yourself to the store) then you can certainly sit outside the shop with a hat and ask passers by for money. If you put the 25p in your hat this will help entice people to donateBesides, there's a principle at stake. Of course I don't expect £1 headphones to be good, but I do expect any product sold in the UK to function.
The principle lol.
The headphones did function, just not very well (as you would expect with a 1 pound pair). I can assure you that every single one of the 1 pound headphones will have the same fault. You get what you pay for0 -
1) Perspective.
2) The purchase was made the previous month when I didn't know I was about to have my account raided by my bank.
3) Poundland happened to be opposite the pharmacy I needed to go to for medication to stop me throwing up constantly.
I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition. But then no one expects the Spanish Inquisition.0 -
if they accept that the headphones are faulty then ask for your money back and walk away.0
