Luton parking - APCOA - lost directions costs £80

Could someone please advice - What should I do? I have to pay £80 (or 50% if I pay within 14 days) for stopping to find the right directions. Should I write to them?
I have purchased Long Stay Parking at Luton and I was driving there to park my car but my sat nav pointed me to short stay parking. I stopped for 2 minutes to change the sat nav address, on the side of the road (I was not blocking anyone), just before entrance to paid parking to avoid paying for it. I then moved away and drove to my prepaid parking.
I got Parking Charge Notice with my car's picture that I was in "contravention of 02-Dropping off / Picking up outside of a designated parking area at LUTON AIRPORT (...)".
It was just a mistake, I didn't leave the car and I drove back to the correct address a mile away.

you should appeal after reading the NEWBIES sticky thread at the top of this forum , using the template inside post #1 , then go to popla if they refuse to cancel
basically the same advice as all the other members get where an airport is involved0 -
''Luton parking - APCOA - lost directions costs £80''
No, it doesn't! You won't be PAYING this! Read the NEWBIES thread to understand the appeal then search the forum for 'APCOA Airport' as keywords to find some of the hundreds of threads about this place. NO-ONE has paid!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

When you send your appeal to APCOA you might wish to include a copy of the following article which appeared in the Luton Herald on 28th March this year:
In that article an APCOA spokesman confirms that their tickets are unlawful contractual penalties, which are issued to "penalise" drivers who pick up or drop off on the roadway, thereby evading the charge for using the drop-off zone. He further confirms that "our processes don't penalise those that stop to find directions." Which is a barefaced lie because they do it all the time, but since he said it you might as well rub their noses in it.Je suis Charlie.0 -
If you think that £80 is a fair charge for 2 minutes parking .... Then pay it!
If, on the other hand you feel this is outrageous ... Do what the previous posters have said. It's easy to get it cancelled.
Paying them only helps fund them to scam even more people. The word "gullible" isn't in the dictionaryTickets: 19 [cancelled: 18, paid: 0, pending: 1]
PPC Appeals: 8 [accepted: 2, rejected: 5, pending: 1]
POPLA: 4 [accepted: 4, rejected: 0, pending: 0]0 -
Slightly off the subject but this is why I despise SatNavs. If you used your eyes and the direction signs instead of relying on a stupid gadget you could've gone directly to the long-stay parking.Je suis Charlie.0

I had an incident of that sort just recently, this time at Heathrow. I was looking for a hotel and could actually see it, but my sat-nav took me to the "wrong side" of the airport fence. It took a longish drive to get out of the airport and double back to the hotel. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
It's not really the fault of the SatNav as if navigating to a post code it's only going to get you to the general area.0

True enough, you can't blame a machine for anything, the blame always lies with the person who puts 100% faith in the machine without understanding its limitations. Like ParkingEye with their ANPR systems.Je suis Charlie.0

Hi All,
Thanks for all responses. I understand from the forum that I should send the template appeal letter to the PCN. Does it make sense to attach some evidence that might help my case:
1) the fact that I had pre-booked ticket for long stay car park, perhaps I can send them a copy
2) the fact that the letter's date of issue is 03/06/2014 and the "alleged contravention" has happened on the 17/05/2014 (that's few days over 14 days)
3) the fact the sign there (I checked using google maps street view) says: "No stopping at any time to drop off or pick up" and no one has entered or left the car
If they refuse my appeal, would I have to then pay 100% fine instead of the 50% they allow me now? I don't know if I can spend that much time fighting this if I loose the first appeal. My wife just wants to pay. I think it is honestly unfair since I already had pre-booked long stay parking...0 -
http://www.parkingticketappeals.org.uk/2014/04/guaranteed-parking-ticket-appeal-service/ will deal with it for £16.00.
They offer a guarantee. Personally if you are worried about the process that's the way I'd go.0
