Ok, I have a budget (excel sheet) that I have used for a few years now. Check bank daily and make sure it tallies. Anything i spend that day, goes on to my budget (sounds simple right?)

Just recently (past week or so) my budget and my bank haven’t tallied up right.

On my online bank statement from NatWest it used to tell me what had gone in / out of my account that day.

For example, if I used my card in a shop to buy something for £20 it would show on my statement as:

Date Type Reference Debited Balance
06-Feb POS
-£20.00 600.00
06-Feb DD British Gas -13.00 587.00

Obviously the reference/description would update once the shop ran their PDQ.

Now though, there’s nothing. The funds are deducted from my balance but there is no indication of how much.

This is what I see

Date Type Reference Debited Balance
06-Feb DD British Gas -13.00 587.00

Which is making it really annoying for me when trying to work out what money went where on what day.

Yesterday – according to my budget withdrew £474. According to my bank account I withdrew £538.37. Having looked at the statement 3 of the withdrawals happened on the 4th feb – but they are showing on the 5th (Which used to only ever happened at the weekend!)

It’s making it bloody annoying trying to keep tabs on my account!

Spoke to NatWest and they are adamant that I couldn’t possibly have seen anything on my bank statement as I’ve indicated.

I know i did!!!

So..... has anyone else noticed NatWest have changed or am i indeed losing my flipping marbles?

I know what you mean normally the pending transactions show on your statement, but since yesterday that does not appear to happen anymore. I'm not sure if this is how its going to be going forward of if their is a problem. I'm off work for two weeks so I'm not able to confirm or deny it

UPDATE: Their is a problem possibly and im sure its being looked into.

Bad news im sorry to say ive just been speaking to my work colleague at work and it appears that going forward pending transactions are no longer going to be posted to customers accounts until they are actually completed :-(

It might be worth calling back and asking to speak to a Manager as its not been communicated to staff as they did not think it was going to be a problem when clearly it is going to be.

Natwest was the only bank who ever did anyway wasnt they?

I dont think any other bank ever processed their transactions like Natwest did.

This happened on our RBS account as well, the POS ie. debit card transactions used to appear as pending without any details other than date and amount.

The balance and available amount was correct though so not too much of an issue.

Noticed this as we have a few recurring debit card payments go through this week of the year and noticed this happening

Noticed this too and its driving me potty!

Just wish they had communicated this to the customers etc before going ahead with it.

Here's hoping they don't just suddenly change the "payments you can withdraw on a weekend before the Monday they are paid in" system they have. It will give me something else to moan about!
  • I know its not much of an issue if the balance is right but its rather annoying when you are trying to monitor money / spends.
