I use the AVS Video Converter 8.1, and would like to convert video files to play on the iphone 5. The source quality would only be dvd or similar so would not need an HD conversion.
The settings are....
ipod (mpeg4, 320x240)
ipod (H.264, 320x240)
ipod (H.264, 640x480)
iphone/ipod touch for tv out (H.264, 640x480)
ipad (H.264, 640x480)
ipad HD video (H.264, 1280x720 fps)
iphone4 (H.264, 920x 640)
Apple TV (H.264, 720x480 30fps)
Apple TV (H.264, 960x540 30fps)
Apple TV HD Video (H.264, 1280x720 24fps)
Please could somebody advise what the best conversion option would be. Would like as much full screen as possible, clear picture and smooth playback

Display is 1136-x-640. Is there a Custom option?
If not, just use iPhone 4.0 -
If i select iphone 4, i then have these advanced settings...

Should i change the above frame size from 960x640 to 1136x640 and leave the rest alone?
Thanks for your reply and help0 -

That will certainly work. If you also want to improve the quality of the video, you can increase the bitrate to 2000. Will result in a bigger file.0 -

That would result in the image being stretched out of proportion so would look distorted. Resizing to 1136x757 would fill the screen and keep proportions, but lose part of the picture top and/or bottom of the frame (assuming the phone doesn't automatically resize to keep the entire image within frame size, in which case it would be reduced to the original 960x640)How do I add a signature?0 -
Thanks for the replies. I thought the new iphone 5 screen was now more like a tv so films would fit better? I didnt really want a cropped image:cool:0

That is not the original size.
The iPhone 5 screen conforms to Widescreen specification(16:9).
So the OP should follow my recommendation when utilising Widescreen material.
It will then fit the screen, with no distortion nor cropping.0 -

By 'original size' I was referring to the preset value in the screenshot of post #3 If you take an image of 960x640 and resize it to 1136x640 the image will be distorted.
However, if the software's presets altered the input file's dimensions to fit the iPhone 4's 960x640 display then that image would have been distorted or cropped anyway, but this was not clear from the above posts. How do I add a signature?0 -

Have a headache now.
It seems that you are assuming that the OP was going to convert material already converted for iPhone 4, for the iPhone 5.
They have already stated "DVD or similar", so there is no issue for when it comes to standard Widescreen material.0 -
Silly me had assumed that 960x640 was a 'standard' aspect ratio. I hadn't considered the possibility that this size was actually a fudge to fit the iPhone 4.How do I add a signature?0
