PICTURES PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE0 -
Really sadly, good news has turned into bad news
- I've taken the decision tonight to take the new lad to the rehoming centre......
He was absolutely wonderful in the house - we had an hours' walk this morning before work & everything was fine when I got in at lunchtime. Another 2 hour walk early afternoon in the woods (which was heavenly and made me realise even more what I've been missing) but really sadly he has one big problem I just didn't feel able to "take a chance on".
If he could "get at" people to sniff them / say hello etc he was great but if there was a barrier (eg in the house if someone came to the door, in the car & someone walked past, but worst of all ...... the party fence with my neighbours kids on the other side) - he went absolutely nuts:(. Seriously scary stuff - I can cope with barking and "grumbling" etc, but this was at a level I wasn't comfortable with.
I'm really upset as I feel I've let the poor soul down and wonder if I should've given it longer ...... the guy at the rescue thinks younger than I was told - and is really optimistic that he'll be able to get him placed with one of the "services" as a working dog - he's very ball orientated which is apparently one of the most important things when it comes to training them as the ball is their reward at the end & the "job" is really a game to get the ball! Really keeping my fingers crossed that pans out for him as even from the short time I had him .... the ball is his best friend and he would do anything to get it!
To say I'm upset is putting it mildly (and it's made me miss Ben even more) but I know it was the right decision as I just couldn't take that chance ...... and it's such a shame as he was wonderful in every other way.
Thank you all for your kind words .....the search goes on - although I think it may be a while before I can face it again.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
