Portugal

I already have my holiday booked to Portugal - what does this mean now the Country is strugling. Will everything be really expensive like it was last year when the same happened in Greece? Gosh I don't half pick these places to go to.....all opinions appreciated.

We were in Portugal last year and we thought it was very expensive compared to other European resorts, this year we have done a nice 5 star all inclusive in Jamaica for very similar money.I think these resorts are very short sighted because people will not pay these ridiculous inflated prices more than once and will find alternatives like we have

We appear to have had a very different experience of Portugal than you - we went October last year to a lovely hotel just outside Albufeira - for 3 of us (one week) on a b&b basis, flights, transfers and car parking at airport came to less than £300 and we took £350 spending money, out of which we went on trips 3 full days to Lisbon, Faro and loads of other places and ate some beautiful food. We found it to be far cheaper than Majorca, Ibiza and Turkey for food and drink. I would be very surprised if I could find a comparable holiday to Jamaica for even close to what we paid.

Anyway we are back to Portugal in October again (just the 2 of us this time for just over £230 b&b, flights, transfers and car parking) and have no real worries at the moment but climates change - it's a beautiful country with some fabulous friendly people and we can't wait to go back. Enjoy your holiday! xx

I am in Portugal as I write. The weather is lovely. I am about to go for lunch to a restaurant. I will have nibbles of olives and bread followed by soup, then half chicken piri piri, followed by cake and coffee. 1 litre of house wine between 2 or soft drinks or beer. All for the grand total of €7.50 per head. Not bad eh?

    North Portugal is great too.
Fly into Porto, the region is beautiful, has a simple and efficient public transport system that makes travelling north, south or east a piece of cake.
There's also friendly resorts up there too, lovely sandy beaches, and not a single British holidaymaker in sight - bliss:cool:

I agree with Brodev, there are some great restaurants in Portugal that are cheap, dish of the day, 1/2 litre of wine, desert and a coffee for about €7. Eat in the resorts and be prepared to get ripped off!

Unless you are in a resort in the north of the country.
