I have used the JustAnswer site to ask doctors, dentists and other experts a question. They have my debit card details and you're required to make a refundable deposit. No problem, except that they took my deposit (two years after beginning to use the site) and have no record of having received it using my only email addresss. Responses range from 'you must have used another email account', and 'you paid by Paypal', so it's a mystery.

I now use one card for all internet business. It's a pain if companies want a different one but on the whole, it works.

Martin, we need a scam corner.

When did you make the deposit?

    How did you pay?

Do you have evidence - bank statement, CC statement, etc.?

  • why have you not sent them a copy of your bank statement to prove that the money has indeed come out of your account to their account?

Why on earth would anyone pay money for something like that??
Experts are not employees or agents of JustAnswer but are, like Customers, simply Users of the Site.

No different from paying to use MSE Forums. Crazy...simply crazy.

Good grief!! I just looked at some T&C's. You now owe me a random fee for accepting my answer, I'll dip into your paypal account to take it.

I would not judge anyone for the things they do e.g. smoke, get drunk, use an internet site where I've benefited from before.

I have the bank statement but it's only £11. This is just a warning that companies may create seperate accounts under the same email address perhaps. And to keep one card for interent only.

OK, so if I have this correct:

They are telling you you paid a deposit but you don't know where (which of your accounts) they got it from.

You have never used the system to ask a question.

You somehow know you paid a deposit but don't know how or the account at the site to which it is linked.

    Is that correct?

Edit: Now you've edited post #5 it seems you do know where they got the money from.

So the problem is that they will not tell you the account (on their site) to which that payment is linked?

  • I still don't get what the problem is? You signed up, they took the deposit?

The problem is that they are saying they don't have a deposit linked to the OP account.

I agree that you should send them a (redacted) copy of your bank/credit card statement showing it was paid.

No comment on the OP's gripe. Just wanted to say that I've used this company twice within the last couple of years and, amazingly to me, have successfully fixed a washing machine and a printer. :j

I live in the sticks and am not practically minded so I thought I'd give them a go (I think I googled a question and their site came near the top). Their service was brilliant and far cheaper than paying for a man to come outand take a look. IIRC I paid £7 for the washing machine and £11 for the printer (you offer the price you're prepared to pay in advance from, iirc, three suggested prices and the service providers - presumably people earning extra cash - choose whether to offer help). It was all very straightforward and easy.

The washing machine fix was particularly memorable as it involved at least a dozen emails over the course of an afternoon between me and a technician and at one stage I had the back, front and top off the machine and bits all over the place . (I planned ahead and took digital photos as I went so I could at least have a reasonable chance of getting it back together again afterwards.)

Anyway, not only did I get it back together but I fixed it for pennies and became a little more confident of doing practical things too.

Oh, they've not done anything shady with my account or bank details nor taken any money they shouldn't have.

Agree with the above. Deposit has gone but it was only £11. Still, it could have been worse. A warning.

Well, it might be a warning if it was at all clear what actually happened.

At the moment it's looking as if you paid a deposit but the forgot both the account details and the method of payment so they can't link you with an account on which a deposit has been paid.

That's not really any reason why anyone else should avoid the company.
