iv just sighnd up as its been just over 3 months from when I had the last account. went through topcashback so *should* get another £50.50 on top of the £100. Im just transfering one credit card DD and thats it. Will then just use the account as a savings account and fund it with 1k a month then withdraw.
People moan about santander but I only use it as a minor account with 1 DD activated on it it should be fine.
Ill be keeping a close eye on the switch but even if i have to make a couple of phonecalls its still worth it for 5% and £150 IMO.

Despite suggesting otherwise I did open a Santander Current Account to get the switching incentive, 5% on £2.5K and £35 via Quidco.

I don't use the acount for anything else and it will be closed in all probability after 12 months.

To be fair I got the £100 and £35 without any major hassle although the one Direct Debit I moved from another "Sleeping" current account didn't move automatically !

I got the progress paperwork from Santander but the final one said the transfer had not taken place as the company concerned not responded in the timeframe allowed.

I spoke to the said Company who suggested had no record of any request but as to which party was at fault is impossible to say.

I manually swicthed the DD though by giving the Santander details to the organisation concerned then ensured that a payment (a whopping 10p) was made as per the requirements of Santander.

The incentive was credited around 8 weeks after opening.

so about 8 weeks after switching thanks i'll look out for it around that date:beer:
  • I've opened an account with Santander, mainly so i can have one for bills and another for anything other than bills (to spend on me having been unemployed for 5 months and living on nothing but Tesco red stripe foods!) So figured, with the £100 lovely incentive, i'd transfer just my phone bill DD from my old HSBC a/c (obviously a varying amount each month) - having been told and also read that you only need 1 DD. Then i could do a SO to good ole HSBC to pay my debts! Voila.

So I called up with the details, and was told that they have to transfer ALL my DD's, and that they can't do just one. Could i do it myself i asked? No. They have to do it. I've re-read through their "small print" on the website and so called T&C's linked to the same page, (which in itself do not even mention the £100 switching incentive) and no where does it say "at least 1 DD required, however if you have more than 1 DD, we will have to do the lot."

I'm on a temp contract, so my pay varies each week, otherwise i'd do it the other way round, have my wages and DD's come in/out of the Santander a/c and my spending money transferred to HSBC. But I want an easy life, without having to calculate my spending each week, after my wages go in and manually tranferring the money over myself.

    ARGH.

    Already not impressed with Santander.

And it didnt even get tracked via quidco. Booooo! I'm off to a branch to see if they're any more helpful
