Just saw this posted on HotUKDeals (I'm sure some heat would be appreciated by the OP if you're a member):

    Telephonetics Vip

Prize is an iPod Nano 4GB, open the windows each day and make a note of where the Christmas trees are (first one is day 3) then enter using the link under the calendar. 2p will be given to Macmillan Cancer Support Charity for each door opened up to a maximum of £500.

    May-Oct: 0 Nov: £200.10

    There's a new one here: http://www.guessthegift.co.uk/

I guess they're giving clues in the video to what the prize is supposed to be, and people guesses are scrolling along the bottom. not sure if this needs its own thread for answers? I don't think anyone will know for certain that they're right!

Another one at Links of London but it says 'exclusive offers' so don't know if there'll be any freebies.

The competitions as part of this one are being posted in the normal way by elverman on their separate threads as per usual. Maybe it could be removed from the advents. I haven't got round to checking yet but assume it might be the same with the other greatcompetition sites.

I will remove it, but they were posted on here as they part of their advent comps, thats what this thread is for, It's not to tread on anyones toes, just to keep all the advents in one place x

  • Need some help with the Oxford University Press quiz on day 4 of the Advent calendar.

I have 3 of the 4 required answers:

1 - what is the ‘Mae West’ that got Mae West into the dictionary?
    c. A Lifejacket

2 - what is the expected response to the 13th-century greeting ‘wassail’?
    B. Drink-Hail

3- in 1598 the traveller Jan van Linschoten dined on ‘rice, which they seeth in broth … and is somewhat sowre but it tasteth well, and is called ...’ What? (Hint: Search the timeline for 'sowre')
    C. Curry

    Having trouble with question 4:

what date does the OED give for the launch of ‘rocket’ as a word?

As far as I can see the answer is 1566
    source - http://www.oed.com/view/Entry/166731

The only options given are 1556, 1557 and 1558.
    Recent wins:

Harvey Nichols Healthy Living Hamper, Healthy Eating Box.
