Was really difficult to enter, wouldn't accept the 3 letters at first and then had to go via the google route again as it kept saying I hadn't got onto the page via the accepted route.

Got there in the end though.

I got to the website through Google and still got the direct linking message. I'm a bit baffled as I don't know how much more indirect than that I can get!

I've asked them what they mean by "auto-entry" and pointed out that without the link I followed, I'd never even know they existed. They need to bear in mind the extra traffic this kind of thing generates too. I'm sure I'm not alone in that I rarely just blindly click the entry link without having a look at what I might be winning, and that usually means a wander (and maybe a return visit to or several) around the site. :(

    Apologies for bumping!

Just had to reply to this thread as I feel that someone needs to defend the competition site as I can fully understand there frustration

There are companies who charge people a monthly fee and then promise to submit competition entries for there subscribers they then submit 1,000's of entries in one go by using a script or programme and according to Loquax one such site submitted 20,000 entries

the competition website's security software may well see the vast number of entries as a mass attack and shut the website down for a length of time thus losing the company vital revenue

I bet you are like me and you hate filling in the captcha's at the bottom of nearly every competition form well they are there to stop automated script entries and are in place because of site's like Win24, WeWin4U and PrizeDrawCentre to name a few

I've actually exchanged several emails with the organisers and they really are in a bad way. From what I can gather there are only 2 people running the show on a voluntary basis and one of them has already threatened to jack as it's taking up so much time. The last email I received, he was 3 days in to checking the logs, and they were 17 hour days.

They said it's mostly the paid-for sites that Amilucky refers to that are causing the log jam. The excess traffic is costing them huge amounts extra in bandwidth and it's just not worth it to them. They also take umbrage at sites like this one that post a hot link and the answer, wondering where is the fun in that. They can't afford to keep the website going and pay for the extra bandwidth for something that is essentially a hobby for them.

I'd love to win this prize, but I'm leaving them be for now.

  • When you see all the different competitions these automated entry people are targeting on behalf of their subscribers you wonder where they are getting their information from.

I imagine they get their information from forums like MSE.
