Economy 18

I've just bought a flat in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. It's three years old and the whole block is on Economy 18 with Eon. One meter with three rates. I've tried comparing rates on Uswitch and they don't show the tariff in their Eon list. The people moving out tell me that they never received a bill from Eon for two and a half years then along with everyone else in the block received an estimated bill for three to five thousand pounds. All the flats objected and most agreed to pay about £500 as Eon didn't have any start readings for the development!
I've made sure I have a start reading (photographed) and perhaps I won't bother switching.0 -
Hi moreteavicar
Economy 18 is a bit of a hybrid tariff.
It is only available in the Eastern region and is specifically for customers with dedicated electric space and water heating equipment.
I posted some general info about these metering set ups on another thread last week which you might find useful. Please see the link below.

Basically, the meter is wired into your water/heating circuits in such a way as to allow you to take advantage of the 18 hours of cheaper water/heating rates.
As this tariff is restricted to specific properties in one region, I'm afraid it is not listed on the comparison sites.
If you work out your costs manually and feel you can save money with another tariff/supplier, it is possible to change the meter to a single rate/Economy 7 type. We are currently charging £50 for this work.
However, you will need to arrange for an independent electrician to check the circuitry first. This is to make sure changing the meter does not cause problems with your water/heating set up.
Hope this helps moreteavicar. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be glad to help.
