HIP Packs

Hello everyone. I'm just about to put my house on the market and I'm looking for a HIP pack provider. However on the news it says the new government are abolishing HIP packs :j.

Should we wait a little while and see what happens or just pay for our HIP pack and get our house up for sale?

Advice welcome!

I am wondering the same myself. Depends how quick you want/need to sell.

Wish Cameron ould put a time scale on it, some people are currently guessing it will be scrapped by the end of this months, others say next year.

Abolishing HIPS is hardly going to be the government's top priority - it may well require legislation. With the mounting national debt they have to sort that out first! I can't imagine HIPs will go for several months.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

It probably will need legislation - one thought I've seen is that scrapping HIPs could join scrapping ID Cards (and other things) in a single Repeal Bill. If so, that will need to be planned, drafted, debated and voted on in the Commons, debated and voted on in the Lords, some committee stages if it doesn't pass both Houses "on the nod" and, finally, the third reading and vote before it can be put into law.
That lot takes time, of which they don't have a lot spare at present because there's the Queen's Speech contents to be thrashed out, drafted and finalised before the end of the month as well as the Budget by the end of June.
What with those and getting to grips with new jobs all round (and new bosses for each Government department) I can't see much new legislation getting done and dusted before the summer recess.

It will require legislation to scrap them but they could be suspended with immediate affect by the housing minister.

legilation is not needed, already inbuilt into regs...but I hear 90 days consultation is needed...and who knows they may decide to put something in its place.

don't hold off therefore....and why hold off with summer around the corner.

    get selling.
