clever OH has just burnt my worktop!

In his wisdom he put a red hot pan straight onto the worktop
It's now left a lovely bubbled brown ring - does anyone have any ideas how to make it look a little less obvious? It's right next to the sink so I can't put a vase of flowers or anything over it, it's too near the edge. Anything just to fade it a bit really.
New worktop is out of the question at the moment too!

No sensible suggest here.
Except to put the OH in the cupboard under the stairs, to keep him from doing any thing else!

What is the work top made of. if i tis wood then a walnut will help or ring remover. If it is marble diferent. Please advise what the worktop is made of.0

It's made of the normal woodchip type stuff with a bluey marble effect veneer on top. It's made the surface of the veneer bubble and burn.
Yes the cupboard sounds a very good idea! I hate to think what would have happened if it had been ME that had burnt it :rolleyes:Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked

I managed to disguise a burn in a gloss black worktop using some silicone spray (like dashboard shine) But it doesnt sound half as bad as yours does.
Ours had just gone a dull grey colour.0 -
If it's in a visually appropriate place, you could make it into a tiled area of worktop. It could prevent the same thing happening again.
I did this to an area next to my mum's cooker, though I didn't make a very neat job of it, she seemed happy enough with the result.
Choose some tiles, route out a suitable rectangle and then chisel out the area of chipboard to the right depth to inset the tiles. I used three large rectangular tiles, so it was easier to get them flat.
I am not a kitchen fitter or anything, so my advice may be bogus. I have no idea if it would cost less for a tradesman to do this than to replace the whole worktop, but at least it's less disruptive.0 -
Try this or I have seen metal strips maybe 4/5 together which stick to the worktop like a static trivet type thingy.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1102399086830

Here it is,they just stick on to the work surface so maybe will hide the burn a bit.

Thanks they look great! Will have to have a look round at different sorts as OH managed to do it just on the corner as the worktop is an L shape (typical). Needless to say he will never live this down!Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked

How big are the pieces of worktop? You can get offcuts where they cut the wood in places like B&Q - we picked up some for the smaller areas in a kitchen for £10. Saves spending £50 on a new one!
Even a full length of new worktop in Ikea is actualy only £25 for quite a nice black/grey dappled stone effect. It wouldn't be impossible to fit yourself.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The piece he's burnt is about 8 foot long, and it's the one the sink is in. It's then joined to another piece on either end making a U shape, so the burn is in one of the corners of the U. We got it from Wickes so I think they'll still have them in as its only 3 years old. OH says a new worktop will have to wait though, so I'm going to show him the metal things sexyjessie suggested.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked
