Hey Lingojingo, now that's the kind of day we like; bet that sore throat's easing already :D
Well done Marru for being so positive - it sounds twee but every knock is an opportunity in disguise.
    Good work LL!
Liking your dreams Ddraig, my OH wants a workshop too - that's on his list though, mine is big enough just with my things on it :D

Got almost £80 bagged up to take to bank later - £60 of that is car tax refund, rest is shrapnel and I'll make up the oddses so it's a nice round figure for my Savings Pot. My plan today (and yes it changes all the time ;)) is to pay off my mortgage with the money I'm saving...who knows what tomorrow's plan will be?:D

Does it count as an NSD if I've had work done today for which I don't have to pay until later??? Got the tank emptied - gosh, that was a relief, the groundwater's been causing awful problems.... We're very lucky, my usual firm managed to fit us into a very busy schedule. So, good day so far. Tonight off to see 6th form college. So, no spending there either - and later today I'm handing over a Freecycled tumble dryer - clearing out slowly!

#All in all, it's going well.

    thanks one and all

    • Will have a cosy night in with OH tonight watching a dvd I got for mothers day, and possibly enjoying bottle of wine and chocs which were pressies at xmas- so free entertainment:D (lots more chocs left yet;) )

That's all of you - it's my latest way of thinking about things on here and I have found many of your posts really insprational!

Today I received my free samples of fabric softener and I have also just booked in some extra work I wasn't expecting for the Friday, Saturday and Monday of the Easter weekend, so it still leaves me the Sunday (weather permitting) to take DGD to the animal park.

Back to the inspirational posts. You are all inspirational but over the past few days I have been thinking more and more about some of the comments on here. Making the very most of what is available now really struck a note. And something Casey said about valuing our own time and feeling good about each and every little job we can do to help one another without the question of money arising. There have been so many instances of posts that really make you sit up and take stock of how we live our lives. It takes a brave person to confess they are happy with their lot when much of society laughs at their chosen lifestyle. Being frugal may be something we do to help a situation, it may be something we do in order to make ends meet or it may even be our chosen path through life but, whatever it is, we are all doing it for a reason. If I could grant you all your wishes then I would and am proud to be a part of something that involves so many good people.

Keep up all your good work and never lose sight of your goals. They are, afterall, just wishes moving closer :)

    :o:o
Confession time ..... I have just ordered a dehydrator which was on one of the threads on the old style board:eek: , Another item off my wish list. In my defence it was a really good price with 40% off and only cost £31.98 with postage:o :o , and I am having a spend day:o :o but still not good for my budget.

    Good afternoon Frugalites.
Having a really good week up to now :j
DH is having a truly wonderful day as his new shed is, as I type, being assembled. It is huge  so perhaps he is intending to move in. It would be cheaper to heat than the house. When I get my greenhouse (all insurance money :D ) we will be able to wave to each other from opposite ends of the garden.
DH and I have just spent a couple of hours splitting logs with the new (Insurance money again) logsplitter which has made short work of a load of tulip wood we were given by a friend. DH has also managed to get permission to have a load of wood from a few hundred yards down the road :j

DH has just informed me that he has been offered a free :j greenhouse and will be going to look at it tomorrow. It just has a couple of broken panes. He then looked a bit worried and said did I mind having a second hand one when everything he is getting is new. How could he even ask

Anybody know where would be a good place to try and find 50 2 foot square paving slabs?

    Well said Nyk,
For me this lifestyle is not particularly about saving money , although that is a nice side effect:D it is more about making the most of things you have, and do, not wasting resources, trying to get away from the power of supermarkets and big businesses, and trying to get a better overall quality to my family's life. Sometimes things take a little more time, effort or organising but the results are worth it, and I love the sense of achievement when something turns out well. I suspect that most frugallers are naturally creative and nurturing people who enjoy cooking, baking, crafting, gardening, caring for animals etc and are looking for ways to bring those aspects back into their lives, and appreciating the small stuff.

Got in from work last night at about 9.15pm to be met with the wonderful aroma of chicken casserole prepared by DH :T
Noticed a couple of potatoes and carrots lying on the worksurface which were a little the worse for wear. Looking a little chewed
Asked DH what the problem was and he said "Think we have a mouse. Cats very interested in the cupboard under the sink where we keep veggies"
Went upstairs, had shower, put dressing gown on and wandered into the kitchen to get some casserole.
Cat looking fixedly at cupboard under sink so opened door to see if the mouse was visible.
Lifted veggie box out and realised that all my fresh veggies had been attacked by little teeth
Cat suddenly dived into box. I spotted the mouse and grabbed a tea towel to throw over it and rescue little fluffy creature from big bad cat.
Next thing, mouse ran up the inside of dressing gown sleeve and started looking for a way out up and down my back
Ran into lounge and asked DH (dozing by fire) to get his a*** into gear and get it out.
DH made feeble attempt to catch the little rat which then fell out the bottom of my dressing gown.
3 cats now leapt into life from tops of chairs and converged on my feet.
Ratlet ran for sanctuary to back of logburner which was a very very bad move as temperature about 200C (slight exaggeration)
    Mouse never seen again :rotfl:
Had another shower, borrowed DH's dressing gown and threw away all my vegs.:o
For those of you who do not know much about mice apart from Mickey Mouse Cartoons....mice have galloping permanent incontinence and pee on everything they come in contact with :D so couldn't bring myself to eat veg, no matter how well washed.

I love reading the wish lists! Please add some more! :)

    Mine started off with...

Pay off all the debts (tick)
Get some Premium Bonds (tick - I know, sad but true)
Have some savings for the children (tick)
Buy some shares (tick) currently losing money by the day
    Fill an ISA (tick)
[strike]Renew my passport[/strike] (now removed from list)
Generate my own income and save a little (tick)
    Buy a house

And then an entire new list sprang up from wanting to buy a house. :D

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: at mouse tales! My cat used to bring them in (live) through the catflap and dump them in the box with her kittens! Most times, I had to lift them out and set them free as the kittens were too full to do more than paw them playfully before going back to sleep.

Has anyone ever put their foot into a welly and found a frog? He was very lucky to escape! 'Bleugh' otherwise!

Janey - have you tried the council for slabs? I'm sure they used to get rid of them really cheaply (possibly free) when replacing the old pavements. Also, if you know of any big garden shows - friends got enough mono-bloc to do their entire driveway when it got hauled up after the exhibition.

Great result with the free greenhouse:T I would have loved a free one last year when i got mine. Cheapest one I could get was £250 a perspex one and it hasn't stood up well at all to the gales recently. Oh needs to refix 3 or 4 panels and move it to a more sheltered area of the garden asap.
Have you got a freecycle for the flags?? I got the ones for my base from someone who was having block paving put in their driveway and was skipping their old 3x2 flags:D
Otherwise check out your local builder's merchants for delivery as they will be really heavy for collecting yourself.
