For your thanks I'll be the 1st to thank youJust want to thank everyone who took the trouble to respond.
I'm really looking for a basic bank account but one who allows you to pay in shops etc.
Lloyds sounds good!!!!
Thanks again
The 2 basic bank accounts I highly recommend from experience are:
Halifax - EasyCash - Visa (Electron) debit card, branch, online and telephone banking.
NatWest - Step - Solo (debit card), branch, online and telephone banking.
Hope this helps

Another option to consider is a Yorkshire Building Society Cash Transactor account. It comes with a Link cash machine card, direct debits, standing orders and can be used at branches and/or online.

I found myself in the same predicament but I used a service called checkmyfile which told me which bank accounts were available to me with my credit score etc. As a result I got accepted by A&L. Checkmyfile are at https://www.checkmyfile.com0
