I just literally called them again and the advisor told me that Caller Display is no longer free with BT Privacy, it's £1.75 per month. I'm also with Sky Talk so don't make any chargeable calls with BT. Perhaps this is why.

Yes I think this is why ........Over the last 4 weeks I have asked BT 37, yes thirty seven time, to activate the Home Privacy with Caller Display, 37 times BT has told me it is now on my line and working, it has never worked. Recently I was told it is a computer fault. Today I approached a BT Open Reach engineer working near my home and asked him about it.....he asked me point blank "Do you route your calls through another company" I said yes, through Sky he said "that is why, they have stopped or are stopping free caller display if you route your calls through another company.....but BT won't tell you that"
I have just spoken to Sky and asked them that if I move my line rental to them will they supply Caller Display or is that up to BT to do and he said Sky do it....is this correct ?

Welcome to the MSE forums Turbo2.

Does you BT account number start with the letters GB by any chance?

BTW, you obviously missed the quote taken from the BT website I included in my earlier post:
Customers with other call providers can still benefit from BT Caller Display at no extra cost if the following calls are made. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month, other wise BT reserves the right to charge £1.75 a month for BT Caller Display. Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £5.25 a quarter.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Its not a good idea to move your line rental to Sky because it could affect your calling options, however if you do decide to, they will supply Voicemail and Caller Display Free of Charge.

Thanks for the info, I take it that you are referring to the extra expensive call options with Sky? .....I have decided to go with Sky line rental, I dislike BT with a passion ( only with them because sky insist ) I and willing to risk it with Sky, time will tell if it was the right decision !!!

It means your account is on BT's new WLR3 computer system - which has a number of 'issues' and that accounts for your (and many others') problem.

Your decision (wrong IMHO) but please click on the 'HERE' link in my signature below before you do anything.
