One of the really yummy things I've found that's good on BBQ's is halloumi cheese, just cut thick slices of it and grill on the BBQ, or you can cut thick chunks and put them on kebab sticks with veggies.

  • I'm a great fan of halloumi its extra yummy. I fry it and make a dressing for it with wholegrain mustard, lime juice, fresh coriander and capers and its lush!
  • A friend of mine has just given me an excellent recipe for a low fat 'crustless quiche' from her diet club. Mix one tub of low fat cottage cheese (200g) with three eggs and place in oven and bake until golden brown. And hey presto you have a low fat recipe! How easy is that?! She said she fries onions mushrooms and peppers then adds these to it as well for different flavours but I guess you could use just about anything.

    Hey!
At the moment I am collating recipes to try on the people I will be housemates with next year. One of the flatmates is vegetarian and I especially want to make an effort for him as college food has been quite limited and bland for him. Has anyone got any vegetarian recipes which don't cost the earth to make and taste delicious?
    Thankyou :)

I'm veggie and my family aren't. I tend to have the same meal as them but substitute the meat for a veggie alternative (duh!) or if someone else invites me for food I'm happy to have no substitute e.g. for roast dinner I'll just have just the potatoes, veg and veggie gravy.

    Try:

Spag bol/chilli made with quorn mince
Bangers and mash with veggie sausages
    Roast dinner with quorn/tofu/nut roast
Stuffed peppers is another nice one
    Roast veg in wraps

    There are loads!

Good luck and have fun experimenting!

Thanks everyone, I'll report back when I've done some cooking

(currently on a bit of cooking marathon, seem to have made a lot of things in the past few days including soup, brownies and bread!)
