I've been following the white bread recipe in the Panasonic manual. The bread turns out okay but I think it could be better. Could you tell me please what make of flour and butter you use?

The flour comes from Lidls - the strong white, the Lidls I use only stocks one. As for butter I buy the 53p blocks from Lidls (Hollybush?) or smartprice from Asda.

What I have done is reduce the amount of water - when I made my first loaf, the dough was really sticky so I added some flour. Now I measure the water and tip a little away (not very precise I know) so it might be worth opening the lid and having a look once it's mixed the dough. It should be a nice ball of dough like you'd have if you made it by hand.

Never tried their flour before but will give it a try now that you have recommended it, so thanks for that.

I have a Panasonic and find that the recipes in the booklet have too much water in them too (too soft sometimes to cut easily). I automatically reduce the water in the recipes by at least 10ml, and sometimes double that if I have used olive oil. But as Magentasue says, have a look once the dough is mixed and check if it is too dry. You can always add a bit more if you need.

Also, I've just made a very successful pizza. I had to divide the dough in half cos there was too much for one pizza. Can I freeze the dough that's left?
Yes you can freeze it no problem - I do it all the time :D

Just got my first breadmaker (Panasonic courtsey of Amazon:j ). Made my first loaf last night (basic white) and it was a complete success!!!! Going to try a wholemeal tomorrow - the Panasonic book suggests various %s of wholemeal to white flour so I'll try the middle of the range one. Very fussy OH to cater for!!! Me - I'll eat anything!!!!

Hope it's going to save me money eventuallly. Currently it's cost me a FORTUNE in containers etc!!! (not helped by new Lakeland opening nearby!)

    Do you freeze it 'raw'?

I have a small freezer at the moment, so yes I freeze it "raw" in dough balls (so it takes up less space). I have in the past rolled out the dough, put toppings on it and then frozen it (especially if I have loads of toppings :D) and room in my freezer - but have always frozen it raw - to save me cooking it twice and burning it! Thanks queenie! I'm really fired up now. I'm not exactly renowned for my cooking ability (although nobody's died yet). Just don't ask about the Mississippi Mud Pie (had to throw the plate away as it couldn't be prised off it!!!! ). When the 'kids' come home my failures are usually a topic of conversation at the dinner table. They will be soooo impressed with my bread now!

Yes! I went to The Butterflies School of Cookery!!!!!

I adored that programme - but I always felt that it was sad. Maybe that's because I identified with Ria and her cooking:confused: .

Had brilliant toast this morning - this could become a addiction!

We had our homemade pizzas last night and they were fab but we all missed a bit of garlic bread. Have done a search but couldn't find any recipes. Does anyone have any garlic bread recipes, not really sure how to go about it. Should I just make plain white dough in the machine and then bake in oven with garlic butter?

Thanks for all the advice about malt extract, i managed to get some in holland and barrett today. Malt loaf will be my experiment for tomorrow.
