Inserting Links (Guide)

Images have to be enabled to use this guide.

Inserting Links in Posts

First Change the Interface

If you haven't already, change to Enhanced Interface

Click Here and you will see the following box:

interfaceselect.png

from now on, you'll have lots of formatting controls above the reply box:

enhancedcontrols.png

You will be able to insert a link just by highlighting text and clicking the createlink.gif icon:

linksenhanced.gif

If your browser is not capable of using the Enhanced Interface, you may have to use the Standard Editor or Basic Editor (see posts below).

Important Note
When the popup opens requesting the url, it may be that http:// is already written in the box and highlighted.
Please delete this before pasting
Usually when filling in such boxes this is unnecessary, but at the moment the forum software will often add your text to the end of the http:// rather than replace it:

    The Standard Editor

The Standard Editor works in the exact same way as the Enhanced interface. The only difference is that instead of seeing the finished link in the reply box you are only shown the formatting code that will create the link:
    linksstandarddisplay.png

It is only when you click Submit Reply or Preview Post that you are shown how the link will finally look.

This Standard Editor might be useful if you are having problems getting your browser to work with the Enhanced Interface, or if you need to see the vB code that makes up your post

    Switching Modes

You can very quickly change between the Enhanced Interface and the Standard Editor by clicking the Switch Editor Mode Icon above the reply box:

    The Basic Editor

With the Basic Editor, you have to wrap your text in vb code

to post a link you would use the following format:

    linksbasiccode.png

    Example:
    Entering
    linksbasiccode2.png
in the reply box would make this link:

    Problems Pasting Text

In some browsers when using the Enhanced Interface you cannot use Paste in the context (right-click) menu.

You can however still use the ctrl v keyboard shortcut.
You can also often select Paste from the Edit menus
