Help Cant connect to the internet

I have a problem with the other halfs laptop, i am trying to connect to the internet but all i get is page not found.
i know the laptop connects to the wireless router as i can access the router. This also happens if i dial up. I have checked all the settings i know about and i am a little lost on how to resolve this. I can connect on my other laptop and the setting look identical.
Any ideas???

  • In IE, click tools, internet options, connections, make sure "never dial a connection" is checked, click on lan settings, and make sure everything is unticked

right click on your wireless network icon, view available wireless networks, change advanced settings, wireless networks, highlight your ssid, properties, connection. Make sure "connect when this network is in range" is ticked. Click OK, advanced, make sure Access point (Infrastrucure) networks only is selected, and automatically connect to non-preferred networks is unticked

Is the Domain name suffix "domain_not_set.invalid"
the same on your other working Pc/laptop ?

have a look at your tcp/ip settings on the laptop and see if a DNS server has been entered - all the tcp/ip setting should be set to auto.

Also disable your ethernet port and turn off bridging ....

can you ping 80.189.94.2 (start >>run >> cmd >> "ping 80.189.94.2" no quotes.) if that is sucessful try ping "google.com"

    May be irrelevant....
Similar prob with DD's laptop while I was away. Ping and ftp worked at cmd level.
Turned out f-secure firewall "internet shield" was set to home and out of box this seems to blocks http traffic. Set it to office and problem was resolved. My point is is your firewall causing the prob?
