Had a look at these and look ok. Notice that don't have sms so will keep in reserve as ones suggested by Clark have sms but are out of stock at moment.

Speakerphone when in hand (not on base unit).
Thanks0 -

Thanks
The Triple BT set that me and flea have mentioned have a speaker in each hand set so they dont need to be in the base unit, just push the handsfree button and talk away with the handset nearby.
I think they have a keypadlock but still reading the instruction booklet.0 -
Have they gone from Currys homepage?
Preferably one without Answer phone.
I was going to go for these, any thoughts?

Looks like Currys have removed this offer, still showing on Dixons site at that price but sold out.
The synergy 4100 you mention look like a good set but the Amazon site says they are not hands free and no loadspeaker ?, other sites say they do have a speakerphone so would need looking into.0 -
Checked them out on BT.com and they don't say one way or other in terms of speakerphone (helpful! ).
To be honest i'm thinking of waiting for the sales as kind of stuck on the calypsos but not paying £90-100 when I can get a better mobile phone for less than half that with more features and airtime thrown in.
However features I would like are:
Speakerphone
SMS
Good reception (had better be, those last ones were bloody awful  )
Caller id
Sim card reader would be an advantage but not essential
Answerphone is not necessary as got 1571
Thanks for all the advice so far."Life? Life is nature's way of keeping meat fresh!"0 -

The reason I say that is because, IMHO, 'free' 1571 services are nothing more than a clever con by call provider companies to make money.
That's because, if you call someone who has the 'service' and they happen to be engaged on a call already, you go straight through to the 1571 'machine'. Your call is connected and you are charged 3p connection and a minimum of 3p for the first minute (if you're on BT or whatever your own calls provider charges [6p connection + 3p now if you're on cable]). So, even if you don't want to leave a message, that call has cost you 6p or more. Trying again (and again, and again) might have the same result too (starts getting expensive).
If the person you called didn't have 1571, you'd have heard an engaged tone, would have known they were probably in and engaged on another call, would not have been charged anything and, usually, would simply have tried again after a few minutes.
An answering machine set to answer after 8 or 9 rings is a far more 'friends and family friendly' device for when you're out - F&F quickly learn (or you can even tell them), that, if you haven't answered by, say, the fifth ring, you're not going to so they'll have the option of hanging on until the answering machine kicks in and leaving a message or hanging up and trying later.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
An answerphone wont pick up messages when the wifes on the phone for hours tho !0
